Feature that turns on the head and taillights when unlocking the car via keyfob

    Anyone here who knows of a device or something that allows the head and tailights to turn on when unlocking the car? I was just thinking that wouldve been awesome now when its getting darker and darker here in Norway. I already have the smartap flasher relay, which turns on the indicators when locking the car (it shouldve also worked when unlocking, but it doesnt)
    A feature that turns on the headlights and tailights like in BMW`s wouldve been great.

    Toyota Techstream diagnostic software would allow you to turn that feature on if it's an existing feature... Otherwise you could DIY a solution by tapping into wherever the flasher signal is and figure a way for it to include the headlights. That'd be beyond my skill level, but to a typical electrical engineer, it wouldn't take much time to figure it out...

    I wanted to do the same thing but have underglow come on when you unlock with fob or door. Good luck to us

    That one is easier than headlights... Splice your undercarriage LED into the wiring circuit that turns the dome light on and off when you unlock / lock the car, then reduce the wattage of the dome light so LED wattage on the undercarriage doesn't create so much of a drain that it gets the ECU or others sensors attention/problems.

    I just bought the Avast mirror indicator, it now got sequental blinkers, DRL and it got footlights outside the car, so everytime i open the car it illuminates the ground both sides of the car, i just tapped into the foot lights inside, cause then everytime i unlock the car it comes on, lock the car it goes off. Then they also stay on if i get into the car and turn it on, they dont turn off until i put the car in gear, as soona s i go into park again they come on. Which is pretty neat, but yea, wouldve loved if the headlights also turned on.
    I have the carista adapter and they dont have that feature, its a billion other useless features, but not that. My prius doesnt even have the welcome home lights, if it had that feature it wouldve been easier to find where to tap and such.

    Thanks for the reply, that's where I am having 1st world problems; for the underglow to stay on after the car is put into gear. Won't even worry about having it controlled by a relay in conjunction with low beams either, that will complicate things. Same with OP, if his headunit comes on when unlock and then puts car into gear, the HU will go off in gear by hooking it up the puddle light method.

    The way to solve this is to have a relay with 2 input positives; one for ready 12V & puddle light 12V. Puddle light comes on and powers up head unit or underglow. When engine is in gear, the puddle light 12v cuts off but the ready 12v keeps the HU or underglow on.


    As for welcome home lights, they have a relay for that which you can replace the stock one behind driver dash. It can do welcome homing, wig wag, euro turn signaling, eliminates resistors for strobing LEDs and other cool stuff. But those are someone else's wants :LOL:

    Yea, thats the smarttap realy by Diode dynamics,i already have that installed, but the indicators r not that bright... plus its a bug with the norwegian prius, so whenevr i unlock the car they dont turn on, only when i lock. And Diode Dynamics says they havent found out why... after a year...
