Suspension can be a safety issue.
The OP plans to keep the vehicle.
    Easy Answer...Replace.

Find a place that you feel good about the price, and the quality of the work.
    But have it done.
IMO some things aren't worth "eeking" out every possible week of life. Replacing before undeniable symptoms manifest, I think is a good thing.

    Sure fooled me.

If that statement isn't supposed to mean what I think is obvious, what DID you intend it to mean ???

    Better easy answer:
Get a second opinion.......preferably from a place that won't "cherry pick" something relatively easy to do and gouge you by overcharging.

Ok this is my third and final reply. As I said please keep politics out of this forum. The person that posted the picture you should be following up with not me. I didn't bring up fake news. They did.
This is a great forum for people who own prius cars.
    Let's keep it that way.
    Thank you and happy travels.

Did the rear shock replacement today. Took about 1.5 hours, wish I had a 17mm ratcheting wrench. I took the tire off for the first side (right), and then left it on for the second (left). If I were to do this, I'd leave the tires on a would be done in ~30 minutes.

Had to buy some tools from harbor freight - jack stands, jack etc :)

I also was confused on with the new bushings... comments on amazon suggested many were re-using the original ones? So that is what I did, re-used the original bushings + the used the new bolt. Original bushings seems to be in good shape. Added some loctite blue to the bolt. Hand tightened the bottom bracket bolt, lowered the car and then tightened to 66ft-lbs.

The old shocks would take ~1 minute to de-compresses whereas the new ones would be fully de-compressed in ~10 seconds.

Ride seems a bit smoother now, but not a massive change. Either way, given the potential of leaking oil, and 90k miles + previous heavy loads + cross country drive it was worth doing the swap now.

    Some pics:

Is that "blue glove" photo meant to show leakage? Did you find leakage, as indicated by the dealer (that is, on the shock they indicated was leaking)?
