I've recently noticed that at times when I switch from HV to EV (eg. coming off a highway while in HV and switching to EV when entering a reduced speed area), the change to EV mode can take up to a minute after I press the EV button. What I see when doing this is the small green outline of the car icon (indicating ICE is on in HV mode) changes to the larger sized EV car icon after I push the EV button, but the larger icon is only an outline as well, which makes me think the ICE is still on. The larger solid green "EV" icon eventually comes on the display but it can take from 30 seconds to a minute to appear.

It seems to have just started to do this and it doesn't happen every time. Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon? It's happening whether I have 80% or 20% charge left.

I think the engine stays on in till u can cruise in cruise on electric only while in hv mode.
Cause I find that ev kicks in when i come to a complete stop.

Are you in D or B?

    Mine does it too, though.

    I'm in D mode.

Good point bisco - I'll check the energy graphics next time it happens.

This may be temp related then. Even though you're in Canada, it's August so the battery temps might be limiting the amount of EV regen coming to it and instead using the ICE to slow down the car more than usual. Just a guess without seeing any data.

MIne has always done this too. I assume it is supposed to and there is a reason. I don't know the reason but I am curious as to why.

It happened again today. It was very soon after starting my drive to work this morning. 60F outside and left from my room temp. garage - so I don't think temp. is the issue.

I noticed I was in power mode and wanted to switch to eco mode for the short 10 min. commute. I accidentally pressed the EV/HV button instead of the Drive Mode button. I immediately noticed my mistake (within 1-2 seconds) and hit EV/HV again to get back into EV. This is when I got the large green outline of the car and it stayed that way for nearly a minute (engine graphics showed ICE was on as well). During that minute I tried to cycle back and forth from EV to HV to EV, but only time passing seemed to lead to the car icon turning solid green and going back into full EV mode. So, maybe it happens when the HV/EV button gets pressed multiple times quickly? Hmmm......

when you hit the hv/ev button, it started the engine warm up cycle. it has to finish before it will reenter ev mode.
but you're basically in ev mode at that point, using more battery than engine until it reaches a certain temp.

Yep, I think you hit the nail on the head. That makes total sense!
