Just did a battery charge and balance on my 2012 Prius with 190000 on it. Fairly easy to install the harness. I also cleaned out the battery fan and I know it makes a difference to have a clean fan. Started charging at 10:15 pm. Battery voltage started at 223. At 11:53 it went to 237v. At 12:54 am it went to 239v. At 1:34am it stayed at 239v. At 5am it was still at 239v. Since it stayed at 239 for four hours I turned it off. This is what the instructions said if I remember correctly. My question is did I charge long enough? It was charging for less than 8 hours or so. I'm wondering if there is anything I should have done different. Any input will be appreciated. I tried to start a conversation with the Hybrid Automotive guy but to no avail. So I'm seeking community input. Thanks.

Was your goal to just do a top end balance?

If so, that maybe a bit short, but you’ve still balanced the cells :).

@jeff652 is active in other parts of his business and isn’t here all of te time, but sounds like the first top end balance was successful ;).

Good luck and keep us posted (y).

Based on the title and the mention of "the Hybrid Automotive guy," I'd say it was a Prolong charger. :)

@Exiled conservative, since it stayed the same for four hours, you would not have gained much, if anything, by charging it longer.

Was this just a top balance or the start of a full reconditioning? And, by the way, @jeff652 is very responsive if you call or email him. Phone number is at the bottom of his website, but I'd advise respecting his weekend, which is about to start ... if he gets one.

The charger that Hybrid Automotive sells. There are instructions on how to just charge and balance. I bought the charger without the discharger. My battery is still good. But I can definitely say my mpg has gone up because of the charger. I plan to charge and balance about every 5 months. Their instructions say do this every 3-4 months.

    Thanks for your input.
Yes it was just a top balance. My battery is good but I wanted to charge as a preventative maintenance. And yes after four hours without change I thought it was best to stop the unit. I have noticed more mpg and better acceleration. I definitely recommend buying this product. I will buy the discharger to recondition when I notice a huge change in the traction battery.

Yes. I thought it was short compared to the length of time hybrid auto said it would take. But it stayed at 239 v for four hours. The instructions says if it stays constant for i think 3-4 hours then it's done. Thats why I'm posting this. To see what the prius community says. I will also say that I also can tell that I have more power. It feels like when I first bought it. With power and acceleration. So I believe in the Prolong system. I am definitely happy I bought it. I hope to just have to charge and top end balance and not need to discharge but I'm prepared to buy the discharger. Prolong is a good product. My humble opinion.

When I plug into my USB port auxiliary charging. I get the message " it is over charging and is going to shutdown."
What is causing this issue? And what can I do to fix it?

This thread is about the Prolong charging system for the hybrid traction battery. You sound like you have an issue with the usb port on the inside of your car. Use the search option and type in what you need and it should give you a bunch of threads to click on.
