Theft - Reset Smart Key Process - No FOBs Registered

    I take it that one doesn't need a registered and working FOB to connect to a Prius Gen3 via TechStream, correct?

    Background to my question is that I what to know if someone can break into a Prius, connect to it via TechStream, and reset the Smart Keys and registers their own FOB and take off with the car. From what I have been researching, this seems possible and would require about 20 minutes for the thief to steal a Prius (due to the 15 minute Smart Key reset process.)

    Is this the case?

    My understanding is that Techstream takes a great deal of time to clear/re-seed a new set of keys... But if you're an electronic locksmith who does it everyday for a living, maybe it could happen. There's actually plenty of ways to steal your car without a key, plenty of ways to pick almost any lock or security key, but most of it can only be done by people who get paid so much money in their jobs to have no interest in stealing a lowly Prius...

    It does not take a long time to reseed, you just need a security code

    Right, I posted 20 minutes to reset a FOB as I had just went through the process on my car via TechStream.

    The easier way to steal a Prius is to get a code grabber and grab the frequency when owner unlocks the car. Since the remote frequency ain’t scrambled each time, you can clone it to another remote and drive off.

    Don’t ask me how I know.

    Also, there are the transponder repeaters that takes two people to operate, one person that grabs or sniffs for your FOB around your living space, bedroom windows etc., where your FOB may be located and the other guy stands next to your car repeating your FOB’s RFID/frequency.

    I'm giving up on them soon, I think the actuators are failing. Like in a time schedule. Don't want to deal with them

    In a month, since I feel a 2005 actuator is about to go. This one has been babied so it's a surprise. Sell it for $2000 for anyone adventurous
