I just bought a '12 plug-in that regularly, and seemingly randomly, cycles the sound of an "electrical servo" performing some function. The sound seems to be emanating from behind the glove box.
After viewing your post, I'm wondering if that describes your (resolved) issue?
    Thanks!

funny, we never got an answer as to what motor.

you have the hvac fan below the cabin filter behind the glove box. could be some debris in it. turn it on and off, and change the speed and see if it changes.

there is also a buzzing sound from the dash when you open the drivers door, and at times when you step on the brake. that's the brake accumulator, normal.

Thanks, Bisco: I was about to ask OP precisely what part they replaced, too!

And I'll monitor whether the "servo noise" cycles with braking.
    Thanks!

Actually motor controlling AC air flow was making noise.

It was motor controlling ac air direction which was making unusual noise
