The Honda Insight - the first was released in 1999, and to this day is still the highest ranked vehicle in terms of MPG. It also happens to be the first hybrid vehicle produced in real volume for the US. The following year (2000), the Prius was released. Two years later Honda released the Civic hybrid. It wasn't until 7 years after the Insight that GM released their first hybrid -- the Escape hybrid.

With regards to my inclusion of Tesla in the list of companies that broke the molds and committed to the new technology that we see daily now, you might be quick to point out that there were EVs released prior to the Tesla Roadster and subsequent mass production Model S. That said, those vehicles were by and large produced solely to comply with a federal mandate, and the manufactures did not commit to the vehicles or to improvement of the technology.

You can easily see the list and content of patents that Tesla has agreed to share with anyone who wants to use them to further the use of EVs. Do you seriously not believe that nobody is leveraging the use of these design elements to build their own vehicles?

    GM-Escape Hybrid... really?

Yes I do believe Musk 'gave away' nothing useful.
Making large battery packs out of little flashlight-size Li-ion cells is not the way to go,,,, IMHO....
Back when that company first built the EV Lotus roadster there was nothing better to use.
    Musk simply bought that company.

Continue with your research.... Take off the MuskBro glasses...

    ps/edit:
I've owned two Gen 1 Insights and one Gen 3 Prius before moving on to more advanced PHEV's and BEV's.
    I have a feeling you're new to the PHEV/BEV game also...Bro...;)

Getting 35 miles on electric in Tampa area. If I turn the A/C on, it will drop the estimated range by 4 miles. I do check the real electric range (when the ICE starts) against the estimated range and it's usually pretty close.
Driving over 55mph really really drops the electric range.

That’s amazing, here I thought I was doing good with almost 1600 miles on a tank. Do you wait until the last pip disappears before fill up? Looks like at least 250 miles left on your tank.

Hey, 1,600 on a tank IS good. I usually only go to about 50 miles to empty and fill up, unless a gas only trip makes me fill up sooner. I never ever let it go real low, due to bad low tank experience in 1972 Vega eons ago.

As of this morning, I'm at ~1/4 tank with 2,337.2 miles on this tank. Next fill up in August. ;)

I can’t speak for the current models, but it used to be very problematic if you ran out of gasoline. Put a strain on the EV portion, could affect 12 V charging and you had to fill with at least 3 gal to get the ICE running.
These were the problems on PC in 2005. I used to imagine myself trudging down the highway carrying a 3gal. can full of gasoline. I take it these things have been solved as I don’t hear about it anymore.
I’m going to have to try a full tank in Pulse/Glide mode and beat your range figures. Your range per tank figures are incredible.! You must be charging at home and your destination?

Go for it, you can do it. (it'll take a few months) I have a lot of EV only miles and trips under 35 miles. I generally only charge at night and again during the day if needed. It's all @ 120 volts.

I've NEVER run out of gas, and avoid doing so by filling up around 50 miles to empty.

I'm still at 1/4 tank and 2367 miles this morning.

My Prime EV range forecast increased from mid-20s in the first days to 44 miles per charge after the first six weeks. I started driving in MD drove to New Orleans and have driven 8800 miles since. When I stopped driving super efficient and fell into a more normal driving style, my ranges forecast have now dropped to 40-41 every day. My mi/kwh peaked above 7 and now are routinely between 6-7 mi/kWh.

I live below sea level, where only bridges are hills. I drive 20 miles each way to work with 1/3 highway 55-60 mph and the rest urban 25-35 mph. I drive very smoothly, efficiently and use almost no climate, which hits efficiency from 15-25% or more.

My mpg on the dash is 199.9 mpg, but I’ve done 85% + EV. My gas drive from MD did 71 mpg over 1200 mi. I’ve used less than 20 gallons of gas since purchase Dec 31, 2017. My Jeep holds that much and used to burn that much every week!

Also, I drive in Eco w eco climate.

For those getting over 40 miles per charge, I am most impressed. I have tried everything to extend my range. But best range has been 36+ miles. My commute is about 71 miles per day and can’t charge at work yet so it almost makes it to the office going there. This summer I have been able to do it 8 times in varying temp settings. Car can be a bit fickle at times but better than dumping all that gas every week previously!

We have had our Prius Prime Upgrade for a little over 2 weeks now, here in Ontario.
The electric range has been increasing each day from a low of 40km(25mi) to a max of 59km(36mi).
The average for the last week has been 55km(34mi).
We have been using the AC, which looks to take about 3km in range.
The car has just under 1,000 on it now, and the gas has only run once for about 10 minutes when the electric ran out.

Mine has been getting 32 EV miles. I have had it since November 2017 and am only on my third tank of gasoline.

I don't see the two screens on the middle and right of this image. How do I enable them or get to them?

Prius owner since 2007, Prime owner for less than 2 weeks.

Just got my Prime leeds than 2 weeks ago. Had a 2007 and 2013 Prius 3 previously.

Have charged the battery to full twice, but EV range Max's out at 22.4 miles. I drive on flat terrain (it's Houston, BTW), no AC, fan and outside air only (fan at ~1/2 full speed). Turning on AC or can of doors not change the displayed range remaining. Looking at this on the navigation screen, not the smaller one just below the windshield.

Any ideas what I am not doing correctly?
