There you have it: November 13th, 2018 marks the last nail on the coffin. A horrible GPS experience, removal of Pandora, OpenTable, and Facebook Places, 3 out of 6 total apps gone, with iHeart Radio shutting doors soon. Essentially we have an 11" dead screen smack in the middle of our car as a dead product with lackluster investments to make this anywhere decent for third parties to integrate and grow the platform.
Thank god, they need to adopt android auto/apple auto asap. Propriety systems are a negative, never understand why they bothered.
What the heck are you talking about? I didn't even bother signing up for Entune or SafetyConnect when I got my Prime Advanced and I make a ton of use out of the center screen.
I was told from my Toyota dealership that they are sunsetting Entune and moving exclusively to Apple’s AirPlay. My opinion, can’t happen fast enough. I hope the make a firmware upgrade for existing vehicles, not like Panasonic failed to do with my Viera TV.
I never had any use for the Entune media apps. On the other hand, I make extensive use of the Advanced apps (Charge Management, Remote Climate, Vehicle Finder, Eco Dashboard, etc). These apps are only on your phone, not the screen in the car.
Well, I suppose the screen could be good for looping cat GIFs or something... (Sorry, I have the 7" Plus screen, and don't bother with car apps).
It's wasted space, IMO. I've spent so much time using Google Maps for navigation that their crappy nav system confuses the heck out of me. I never activated the Entune stuff, so I won't miss it. And I'm not going to trade-in my Android phone for an iPhone just to make it fit their notions of how my car should work. What they should do is put a hole in the dash with a mounting bracket that will let you insert any tablet, either iOS or Android, under some size, using some kind of a bezel designed for that device. Then offer an app that runs on it that connects to the car and other apps.
That would be totally useless for the 80% or so of people in the world who have devices other than Apple devices. Android 76.82% iOS 20.45% Unknown 1.23% Windows 0.4% Samsung 0.28% Series 40 0.23% Mobile Operating System Market Share Worldwide | StatCounter Global Stats
Wait! It got be more than 80%! There are still people who do not have smartphone or tablet but drive.
Entune is trash and will soon be even lousier. Hope there is some way to "retrofit" better software into these units. Or at the very least, connect the display to a tablet or smartphone and run apps from there. I absolutely love my Prime but Entune is the one terrible thing about it.
Is this even allowed? We purchased the car with these features in mind, and with this software update, they are degrading the features that the car was delivered with. IANAL, but this seems questionable at best. How can they take away a feature without any compensation to the customer?
I assume that this is a reference to the ECO dashboard app on the Advanced. From what I understand, the apps to be removed are third-party media apps that their respective vendors no longer want to support on Entune, and this does not apply to the Advanced apps.
Those may be the global stats, but if you look at the United States, which is where Entune is provided, I suspect that the iOS percentage is a LOT higher.
It is - still 10 points below Android, however. 54-44, roughly. The funny thing is Japan is like 2/3 - 1/3, with iOS on top. So I guess we get hosed in the US because of that.
Those are 3rd party apps and they can come and go depending on whether (I'm assuming here), the 3rd party wants to pay Toyota (or Toyota wants to pay them licencing fees) to be included into Entune. Either the contract ended or one or both parties do not want this partnership to continue. I believe there is a clause somewhere stating apps can be added or removed.
