    1. Mobil 1 synthetic oil is being sold by Walmart for $22.88 for a 5 qt container.
    2. You can get a $12 rebate on the purchase of a 5 qt. Mobil 1 container (limit 2 purchases).
    https://apfco.com/secure/R9798W/

That promotion expires October 31. I just got my rebate check for $24 today. I was waiting until I received my rebate before writing about this, since Walmart is not listed as a participating retailer on the rebate form.

Simple math will show you that the net price for a 5 qt container is $10.88 plus the sales tax you paid on the Walmart purchase. How can you beat that?

I got a 5 qt bottle of 0W-20 AP for $39.95 and am excitedly waiting for my rebate email!

    How rude of me.

Thank you so much for sharing this update!

I use mobil 1 annual oil in everything except for my prius. Penelope gets Mobil 1 0w30 advanced fuel economy in the winter. Warranty protection for 5w30 & 10w30 requirements. I think it's better for all the cold mornings and it keeps the winter fuel economy from struggling as much due to thicker oil in the cold. I also imagine it cuts down on wear during those cold Colorado mornings.

Yea... I'm a big fan of 0W-20. It has me convinced I get slightly better gas mileage, but maybe that's the label? :) What do others think? Being on the west coast where freezing temps are rare, this seems like the best oil to use... And because it's synthetic I can get 10K miles before the oil goes bad, which is a big help because my typical road trip is 2K miles.

I would not put anything too light like those 0w20 that you shared in a prius. You want atleast 0w30 and I use 5w30 annual in it in the summer. I run both oil for about 10k miles or approximately 6 months and I use only K&N filters.

Less viscosity, less resistance = better gas mileage, or so the theory goes. I'm at 223K miles and 110K miles has been on 0W-20 and thus far no issues with burning oil any more than when I got it at 104K miles. Of course I wouldn't use 0W-20 in a colder climate.

Good to know, thank you and thanks for sharing your experience and even miles driven on the lighter oil.

My current car, PRIME, is still under 2 yr Toyota Care. Beside, being PHV and having EV ratio of over 60%, the ICE have not run 10K yet. I bought Mobil 1 High Mileage Motor Oil 0W-20 for our 10 years old 160K miles Civic Hybrid, my son is currently driving. I have been using only genuine Honda 0W20 on this car, but they are sooooo expensive (~$10/qt on ebay, lol). I am going to give a try with Mobil1 oil at 1/5 of price after rebate.

    Did you mean hotter climate?

Unless you're dealing with a knackered engine I'd steer clear of anything labelled "high mileage". They have additives that swell oil seals, and I don't think you want to do that unless your oil consumption is out-of-control.

Just to counter the mobil1 lovefest, lol: Toyota oil's all I've ever used, seems fine. Price is right up here, don't have to chase sales, and I bring my own bottle, buy it in bulk.

Toyota 0W20 synth was $4.50 CDN per liter in bulk. Last time it jumped to something like $5.60, but I'm not sure if that was an abberation, sales guy screw up. I didn't bother to argue.

I would go with the annual oil at recommended weight with their filter if you don't want to pay the extra for k&n. It will truly stay clean for 20k moles or a year. Just ALWAYS monitor the oil level as well as tires pressure. So important!

I was thinking that... I run my heavier viscosity when it's real hot. I use much lighter oil when it's cold to prevent dry starts. I even prime my oil filter.

Nope... The thicker the oil = the higher viscosity = the greater the amount of protection in sub-freezing temps when engine wear is at its worse before engine reaches normal operating temperature.

in most vehicles, the first 5 minutes of driving it when engine is cold causes the equivalent of many thousands of miles of driving it at normal operating temperature.

Hmmmmm, thanks for heads up advice. I canceled my order and am going to change to Mobil 1 0W-20 Advanced Fuel Economy Full Synthetic Motor Oil.

Going with Mobil 1 0W-20 Advanced Fuel Economy. It's $17 less than Mobil 1 Annual Protection 0W20, 5 qt. My son does not drive 20K/yr anyway. I am so cheap. :D

That's a new one for me, lol.

I think it irresponsible that they tout high-mileage oils without a clear explanation of what it's for, how it works. I can recall standing at a shelf looking at bottles of this stuff, thinking "yup, that might be for our car, it's getting on".

It's akin to a terminal cancer patient turning to morphine: it's appropriate, but only as a last-ditch life stretcher.

Perhaps do some Googling to confirm if you don't believe me, but what I was taught in auto shop in high school is exact opposite of what you said.

I run 0w30 advanced fuel economy in the winter. Good stuff. Best wishes!

I could be wrong... Currently doing some googling to get a straight answer and it's not going well...

Yeah the numbers are almost akin to temperatures: higher numbers for higher temperatures.
