That sounds like a hot tip. I'll try to find out where that area is.

Is there any chance the oxygen sensor got damaged or contaminated and is causing this? I did not replace the one on the catalytic converter, the original o2 sensor is on.

No, if it was the 02 sensors, it would have a check engine light. The lights are all brake related components.

This is the Dealer Diagnostic page for what it was doing.

They took a little while but figured out that it simply needed an (ECU?) "re-calibration" due to the converter welding. So that's fantastic news.

For the first time in a year (p0420, p0300, p0303 | PriusChat) my Prius finally has no engine lights or other warning lights on. Its almost like new again.
Now I just have to pin down why its throwing a little coolant into the engine compartment (replaced cap, no fix). But that's for another thread. Thanks to everyone who commented and helped me out with this situation.

If you haven't sold the bad cats already I would buy them.
I pay $250 for gen1, $300 for gen2 and $130 for gen3 catalytic converter sets. Must be OEM, can be in working or non working condition, it doesn't matter because I am scrapping.

Not sure if it is my catalytic converter or not, but my gen3 has a pretty bad smell, especially if it is cold, but I noticed otherwise too. There is no check engine light. What could be it other than the cat if no error thrown? Or should I check with TechStream?

    Could be HVAC.
You can vary the modes and see if things change.

You're going to have to be more specific about the type of "pretty bad smell."
This is especially if you live where it rains a lot, you have small children or pets, or you live next to a cat lady.

Could also be acorns in your cabin air filter housing.

Right. Bad smell I meant like not burned properly or burned oil. When you start the engine, some old engines give you that smell until it gets warm. But mine, even if it is running hot after 2 hrs drive, when I start the engine again, I have to stop the air-in in.

You might want to check for a valve cover leak that would drip onto hot engine components and produce such a smell. Maybe Remove the plastic shield underneath the engine compartment and carefully visually check for dirty tracks of oil leaking tgat would lead to anything hot?

Hey, old thread but I'm wondering how this has held up? I might need to get one as well. Or try cleaning it first since the old engine was probably burning oil and probably clogged up the cat

My car threw up the same code and I had to get the unit replaced, I got lucky I found a place that replaced it and put on a heat shield to prevent theft all for 700.
