That’s no lady saying “turn left” or “turn right”! That’s my wife!!
But the most hilarious situation was driving in my wife’s home city of Hamburg, Germany, when she started disagreeing with the verbal directions being given by the GPS lady. I ended up having two women yelling contrary directions at me whilst driving, and one of them was cursing in German. To preserve everyone’s sanity, the GPS was finally muted.

Ahem. Most Garmin, Magellan, and no-name GPSs I have used have offered a choice of “North up” versus “Track up” somewhere in their options. I have not been able to convince my iPhone maps app to stay in a North Up orientation, however, so either the programmers or the vast majority of the smart phone map app users seem to prefer Track Up. I find it distracting to have the map shifting orientation as the car rotates around a turn, personally, and have no trouble doing the mental translation from a North Up display to which way I must turn next. Curious if age makes a difference with us older “paper-map” people preferring North Up and the younger “smart-phone” people preferring Track Up?

Same here. Plus I like knowing which way I'm going. When the car symbol is always pointing up, I can't tell if I'm going north, south, east, west, or what. But then with the "North up" setting it puts the car in the center, so half the screen is wasted on where you've already been. Have any of these programmers ever driven a car?

    Edit to add:
I guess we already kind of had this conversation back in June. LOL!
