Very interesting. Thank you for sharing that the 700 miles is not exactly normal. I do not know what MPGs or miles per tank ours is getting. It’s currently used by my parents and almost all trips are local. Our other cars require premium, and before understanding what the octane rating is all about, we just kept using it. So far no knocking. But the car has less than 25k miles at this point.

Prii have some sort of variable valve timing, so I suspect it does adapt to the higher octane fuel by closing valves sooner. This may keep the engine quieter. Of course I realize the wealth of knowledge on this forum might be better able to explain than my rudimentary understanding.

(On the Mercedes forum I was guilty of calling the 12 V battery an auxiliary battery, and that the W212 has two. The surprised response was that it would be absurd to have three, a main 12 V, and two 12 V auxiliary batteries. The auxiliary battery is there in case of failure for the start stop system. I had to apologize for my mis statement, as the 12 V in hybrids are considered aux batteries).......

I've noticed at a few red lights, as the light goes green the car beside me seems to be starting up, with a conventional sounding starter. I guess start-stop systems are getting more prevelant.

I hear the new chevy's doing it. I wonder if they go through alot of those ordinary starters and how their engines are handling heating and cooling all the time like ours do. I was told that's why diesels last so long. Is because they idle and maintain operating temps where gas engines are subject to constant expansion and contraction due to constant heating and cooling. Mazda now uses 16:1 compression with unleaded pump gas and utilizes the knock to get exceptional fuel economy. I was very impressed! I will share below if you care to watch.

Head to Walmart World. It is $22 and change (for the advanced fuel economy oil) vs. over $40 at most other retailers.

You can also get free 2 day "prime" delivery on all orders over $35 just like Amazon.

I did go to Walmart. Heck of a price even w/o the rebate. I got two and also two filters. I saw it later at Sam's Club. They had it in 6-quart boxes for about $13 more than the 5-quart jug at Walmart.

Yeah, that happened so often to us, we finally decided the membership at Sam's Club was not worth it. It's an hour drive for Sam's club, and I can get most things there same or sometimes cheaper at Walmart only 15 min away. Go figure. o_O

Distances are the opposite for us. Sam's is much closer. But Walmart is still well within PiP battery range. :) We have found some good deals at Sam's, but you do need to keep your eyes open.

Yep. I feel the same way about Costco. Lots of the products are always huge multipacks, and you think you're saving money.... I don't know, maybe? Quicker & simpler for me to just run into the Super Walfart and grab a few things. (I still got some of that Red Line Oil I never used. Supposed to be the miracle oil.)

That mystery oil clogged up the catalyst on my 05 santa fe. Plugged it up tight. I would not put it in the gas tank like it says. It was comparable to sugar in the tank or something. Expensive repairs because of snake oil.

    No Problemo.
But I know what you were talking about. Yeah, I don't think I would ever use that Miracle stuff for the gas tank. Was it "Marvel Mystery Oil"?

Correct, back before catalytic converters I reckon. I added as directed to both and then filled up and drove home. Next day, plugged up so tight it was blowing back into the egr and I couldn't press the gas because the back pressure was so high it sounded like a vacuum leak. Buyers beware!

Still waiting on mine. Even if I never get it the oil is a good price. I usually pair it with a Fram filter. The sure grip end gives me enough grip to get the filter loose.
