    Ok last post.

John is out for this year after 4 days and 50 miles.

He ran out of dry clothes, and today was a bailout day on the North Sauk.

Now I doing stuff with my daughter!

50 miles through that terrain is still a real accomplishment, although I'm guessing it was considerably less than that as the crow flies, with that many switchbacks on the trail. All in all a very ambitious undertaking, even for someone 40 or 50 years younger. I'm glad discretion became the better part of valor.

Dang. Any chance of him hanging out inside for the wet weekend, and trying again in better weather next week?

I am home in Mississippi after visiting my daughter for a month.
I reprogrammed both Primes to beep only once in Reverse.
We got the kitchen and garage GFCIed. (Bathrooms were already GFCI)
We got a 20 amp 220 volt socket in the carport for her wife's Prius Prime.
    We documented her service panel.
We added a LED motion detector light for the carport.
We replaced 21 light bulbs in her house. (yes, my daughter works graveyard shift)
I took her Subaru in for a new axle.
We replaced brake light bulbs in her roomate's Dodge Neon.
I had the garage doors 'tuned up'.
I failed to donate her Ford Focus to charity and to upgrade the range light.

I dropped off my older brother at Stevens Pass and picked him up on the North fork of the Sauk near Darrington, 4 days and 47 miles later.
I visited my older sister in Bay Center, my younger brother in Aberdeen, and a vibrant fabric store in Abbotsford BC. Overseas Fabrics - The Largest of Its Kind

Other than that, I was a blob in her living room and took them out to restaurants.

I hope that he is able to try again next year, with much better results.

He had several self imposed 'rules' that were not helping, I hope he has realized them.
He was using 37 year old style gear.
He was eating the same meals from 37 years ago.
He was starting too late in the year to finish when he would have.

Modernizing will drop as much as 30 pounds from his pack.
Cold will be less of an issue in August.
My daughter wants to walk the shorter legs with him, slowing him down, and further lowering pack weight

This year, it was a tradeoff between wildfire smoke vs cold. I think last year was too.

Since Jimbo and John failed to produce any new pictures from the Pacific Crest Trail to show us, I'll post a few of my own.

I snapped these from the PCT on a day hike last week, Sept 26, in the Goat Rocks Wilderness south of White Pass. This is the section from Cispus Pass and Cispus Basin, to the Snowgrass Flats junction, far south of the portion John was attempting.

The white critters are the namesake of this particular Wilderness, the full flock was more than twice what I show here. The big rock without snow appears to be Gilbert Peak. The larger snow-covered rock is Mt. Adams.

Not technically the Pacific Crest Trail, this is the North Fork Sauk, where I waited for John.

You can see it goes up hill in the background.

Amidoji is going to Portand Oregon this weekend to judge costumes at Kumroicon. Kumoricon » Cosplay Contest
Last weekend she was the judge at Bellingham ComicCon. Belllingham ComiCon, Northwest Washington's Premier Comic
    Book Convention

As it happens I spent September in her sewing room, so I got a first hand view.

So we can follow her work, starting at Overseas Fabrics, which features fabric to make Saris. Amidoji will use Sari fabric for Peach and Daisy. Overseas Fabrics - The Largest of Its Kind
    [IMG]

Ami uses a Juki Lightweight sewing machine so she can carry it to Cons, and a Singer serger. (she has a heavy duty Singer sewing machine as well, but saves it for denser fabric, as it is slower)
    HZL-29Z - Products
    ProFinish™ 14CG754 Serger | Singer.com

Now she start at the inside and builds on two purchased hoop skirts so the costume will be 'floofy'

Now it is time to build an outer layer

Now she buys Accesories, Peach on left, and Daisy on right.

    Next, Daisy!

Neither the collar nor the sleeve flounces have any straight lines. straight lines are easy.

Amidoji stayed up all night and finished Daisy, defeating my hopes of more build steps.

    Daisy Wig

    Peach Wig

So today is Bellingham ComicCon and Amidoji is the chief judge. Belllingham ComiCon, Northwest Washington's Premier Comic
    Book Convention

But before they get there this is what they wake up to:
glass every where, Daisy is cut on both feet, and won't be in costume today, so we have Peach pictures at BCC. The gloves are purchased.

And now they made it to KumoriCon and we have Princess Daisy poses.
