P3018 code coming with triangle and maintenance required light and car excelaring by itsellf. Any thoughts. Did analyses with Hyprid reporter after running it through Hybrid assistance battery check. Only thing I see is that block number 7 low voltage was 12.32 after charging and balancing for 16 hours with Hybrid Automotive charger balancer. Can't seem to pinpoint what the P3018 code is. Please help.

P3018 is a hv battery error reporting block 8 becomes weak. Most likely you have more than 1 failed module. You'll need to replace them and then use the HA charger/discharge to balance and recondition.

Which end of the pack are you counting from?

If from the ECU end, that’s why you’re saying block 8 and the car is saying block 7.

No, counting right, but the data comes from the app Hybrid Reporter which works from the data retrieved from the hybrid assistant app. Screenshot_2018-10-06-22-37-00.jpeg Screenshot_2018-10-06-22-37-14.jpeg

See reply to next comment you are probably right. I see block 7, 8 and maybe 11 as problematic according to the data. Thank you very much I have seen the p3018 saying it's block 8, just seemed to me that it was strange that and error code could pinpoint block 8, but who knows?

I will order six cells and replace what need to be when I break it down and test each one then do the charge rebalence with the HA charge rebalencer.

You have many questionable blocks/modules, especially after a 16 hour reconditioning. Did you do any discharge cycles?

Had done it about a 3 months ago and this time didn't have the three days time to do it as my daughter needed to use the car so just did the charge balence to see what the data would provide. Last time it was done I had replace blocks 10 and 12 based on data and did the three day charge balance cycles and finished with a 16 hour charge balance on the last cycle cycle. Everything has been fine until three days ago when she told me she was getting the p3018 error code.

No I use Hybrid Assistant and Hybrid reporter and both are pretty accurate and were recommended by a tech friend at Hybrid shop in my home town of San Juan Puerto Rico. This car has been shipped from PR and now is in Harrisburg PA. I am here visiting because she brought a new house, but I always bring my tools and the charge with me as all my children and wife have them.

Blocks 3,4 - 7,8 - 11,12 all have issues. If you want something reliable, you should get a new battery. Replacing that many modules normally would not provide good lasting results.

I agree and will discuss this with my daughter. Probably best solution. Any recommendations as to best company and price to buy from? I saw battery on Amazon which uses a different type of cell but goes in the same chassis has anyone seen this type? It is supposed to be brand new cells although a different type of will fit in the generation 2 and 3 battery I will send picture.I agree and will discuss this with my daughter. A very good supplier now is elearnaid.com. He sells slightly used modules at great prices. These are usually not rebuilt but straight from low mileage wrecks (serial numbers will match the year listed).

A few members have bought his batteries and have had good results with them. I think the owner there is Bernie, he stops by here sometimes to give advice.

If you're already replacing modules, we will assume that you can replace a HV battery (and clean the fan).

Many have purchased batteries from NewPriusBatteries.com | Home , and no one has heard a bad word to date.

For not much more you can source a new HV battery from a toyota dealer.

There are other options for decent used HV batteries outside of CA (elearnaid.com), and would be closer to where the vehicle is currently residing in PA. If this is a path you might be interested in let me know via PM.

New HV OEM HV Battery pack is best for reliability. You also have some future proof reliability/flexibility. You can transfer this pack into another Gen2 (2004-2009), a Gen3 (swap Gen2 modules into Gen3 case), and possibly into a Gen4.

Just found a dealer who beat Camelback Toyota (Phoenix, AZ). The cheapest price for an OEM HV Battery is now, $1699.70, Conicelli Toyota, Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, 19428. Beats Camelback Toytoa (Phoenix, AZ) by $103.46 ($1803.16 - $1699.70 = $103.46)

OP would need to call and confirm the dealership will sell OTC (Over The Counter) to him. OP can also call closer dealers to see if they will price match or possibly BEAT Conicelli Toyota's price.

2K1Toaster's cylindrical replacement are a great option for those that don't live near a Toyota dealer that will sell the OEM HV pack cheaply ($1600-$1800). With a Toyota pack, there is established and proven reliability (8-10+ years).

yes I do know how to clean the fan I did it 1 1/2 years ago when I installed the hybrid Automotion prolong battery charger harness and it's pretty clean now for sure I will check out these other options you have. thank you very much for your input. it's hard to understand the information on the elearn aid.com it seems like they don't have any batteries in stock right now.

    Your the Original Poster (OP);).

@2k1Toaster is a member here (proprietor of new Prius batteries) and just got a shipment from oversees. He may have some availability, but work checking:).

Another option might be to look on some pick n pull type salvage yard places and see what they have in low year wrecks. Harrisburg isn’t too far away from the largest salvage yard on the east coast: Harry’s U Pull it:

Harry's U-Pull It | Lowest Price & Largest Selection of Auto Parts. Period.

I grew up about an hour from them and they usually have a bit of everything. I’d give them a call as they might have a line on some wrecked Prii and sell the pack. Even a gen4 pack could work if it is from a low end Prius (a 1 or 2), just need to as them up front.

Good luck and keep us posted (y).
