My wife ran into a problem with her car this morning where the dashboard was only displaying a few of the normal elements. The car started, ran, and stopped properly for her morning commute. Obviously the display worked fine yesterday and has had no problems to date. I did some searches in the forums and saw a lot of similar issues with older models around the "combination meter" but that seemed to be with Prius models 2009 or earlier. My wife said the display did not resume normal operation by the end of her morning commute.

Given I am not too familiar with debugging this car, I thought I would seek help from the experts about what to do and\or try before taking it in. Sorry for the blurry photo ...

The circuit board inside the display appears to be failing. It is a dealer only repair. The board needs to be disassembled from the dash and sent away to a repair facility. I've been told that it may take several weeks. And, the car will be parked and can't be operated. Cost appears to be in the $1,500 area.

Gen 2 Prius models had problematic displays. There was an enhanced warranty. Gem 3 failures are not common. I have heard of only one other.

On the alternative, Prius v displays are available in wrecking yards and on eBay for around $100-150. They have differing mileages on the odometer. They must, however, be "paired" with your car using TIS or Toyota Techstream software.

You're a genius! The cluster lights in our 2012 Prius v look the same as the OP's when the brightness control is turned all the way down.

the dash board light dimmer was up to full, I checked that first, and I was able to drive the car. I let it sit all day while I was at work and even called the dealership who told me they had never heard of an issue like this. I was fully prepared to have to go there the next day but when I went back to the car and turned it on all the lights on the dash were back on. and I have not had an issue since but I am concerned it wil happen again, and I have seen were it was an issue for earlier models. Has there been anyone else with this issue?

Sounds like you might have an "iffy" connection within the display's circuit board. Vibration might be the cause of the "on/off" condition.

A cracked solder joint on a CB will do that. One of the most difficult intermittents to find.

I lost part of the display recently on my Prius V Model 3. After reading through that forum, I realized that the brightness control had been turned all the way down, probably by accident. That small brightness control wheel is on the left of the steering wheel, below the air vent, by the left knee. Curiously, when I started the car, everything was fine, but as soon as I would turn on the headlights, part of the display would disappear. Sorry for not posting pictures, but I hope my description will help others for my car model, as you guys helped me.
