I wonder how much of the (Corolla) grill is actually blocked out, just for show.

The bigger the radiator, the lower the MPG... Illusions of grandeur has its costs...

Yeah but they're all going back to Corolla now so it's Corolla everywhere in the world.

Brighten your screen and you can see the black plastic bar that goes behind the licence plate. I'd say about 50-60% is blocked.

The Auris was originally the Scion iM in the US. Toyota needed to put it somewhere when they closed Scion, and the Auris was already called a Corolla in Australia.
The Auris will soon be gone though.

The Corolla has been a midsize under EPA rules for years now. The current one has the same wheelbase as the Prius, and is wider and longer, but shorter. The Auris, current Corolla hatchback, is smaller, but the car in the OP is a wagon; it has a longer 'tail' than what is labelled a hatchback.

I am OK with the grille. Maybe this will spawn a good aftermarket for optional grilles, chrome option below noted. And there may be enough room for a couple of aftermarket light bars for Bay Area fog driving.

The Prius engine is borrowed from the Corolla. And the wheel size.

Oh, please... no. o_O That really doesn't help one bit. Just... no.

Light bars? Ummm,... no and no.

Really, Toyota, just please fire or retire the one designer doing all the fronts of all your Lexus and newer Toyotas, the ones he/she designed from the 2013 V and newer. That would solve it. The only add-on that might actually look good is something that covers 100% of the big maw grille madness goings on lately.

I suspect the problem has gone viral to most of the designers. Our only recourse may be to vote with our wallets and buy from a competitor. :(

    I like the hood.
    I like the headlights.
But the front grille is a little over the top. It does look like an angry flounder.

But I've seen worse. For a while every Mazda front end design looked like it was lifted from Pixar's Cars movies.

I think the rest of the vehicle looks great. Really good.
I think I could easily accept the Frowning Flounder look...because I think the rest of the vehicle looks great.

Fashion... I remember standing in line in some clothing store with my wife: there was a rack nearby, with these really strange looking women's tops. They were short sleeved, really truncated short, all the seams were outwards, like the garment was inside out, and they were sort of dappled/tie-dyed, except it looked more like a laundry mishap.

I remarked to my wife: "can you imagine anyone buying these?". She quietly showed me a couple she'd picked out, in the buggy...:unsure:

I really don't get what happened to Toyota with design.

Back in 2012 a really beautiful plug-in hybrid was showcased called the NS4.
After that it completely disappeared. THIS should have been the new Corolla. A plug-in and a hybrid.

    Or the new Prius.

Those votes are currently to the tune of 80K Tesla deliveries a quarter, probably 1/2 million by this time next year. And look how big the grill is on the front of a Tesla... The entire auto industry and soon trucks and trucking industry is gonna go broke to the extent they think the future vehicles involves getting gas at the gas station. It doesn't! And most troubling of all is how far behind vehicle makers already are.

Are they making only hatchback Corolla Hybrid? How is the cargo? Any difference from non-hybrid Corolla Hatch?

Same. The battery is under the rear seat. The Corolla Hatchback is available at your local dealer (gas only) if you want to see how it looks like. It's a bit small (I'd wager, smaller than the Matrix?).

The Corolla sedan will be redesigned for 2020 and it should offer a hybrid version as well. The question is whether the US will get the hybrid option.

The photo in the first post looks more like the Prius v styling rather than a hatchback.

Thanks. If it comes to US, I have to compare with a new 2019 RAV4 hybrid to see which is better fit for my need.

Assuming the RAV4 drivetrain is the same across all their models. they are VERY fussy and require special equipment to get proper tire balance.
A coworker just bought a new RAV4 with aftermarket rims & tires that the dealer had installed by a local shop. After many attempts of different tires & rims, They got it balanced on the proper machine and still had to replace 2 defective tires to resolve the vibration issues.

Just a warning. As always, buyer beware. There was only one tire shop in town that had the needed balancing equipment and adapter.

Thanks for heads up info. That sound like AWD issue. If I buy RAV4, I am planning to use a set of old alloy wheels I have off from our old Sienna AWD for winter wheels that supposed to fit on current RAV4 (not sure if it will fit on 2019 though). But this may not work if balancing become an issue. I have been looking for a second car with large cargo space, AWD for winter traction, fuel efficiency of at least 40 mpg (hybrid or phev or ev), and affordable (~$30k max). Looked into Leaf and Clarity, but beside from fuel efficiency and affordability (due to large incentive) , neither fit the bill for cargo space and AWD.
