Anyone else experiencing issues with rattling in their Prime? I have the Premium model, rolled it off the lot back in June and within hours noticed rattling. The worst offender is the front passenger door while listening to beat heavy music. It sounds like the entire panel is going to rattle off. My dash has some mild ratting up at the top, somewhere behind the 11" screen. Driver side front door also has a rattle with music playing, though it's not as bad as the other one. I've taken the car to two different dealerships and, wouldn't you know, none of the rattles act up when it's there and they don't locate the sources. So the issue persists and drives me absolutely insane. I'm a heavy commuter and music in my car is a must! I've finally gotten it on video and am hoping it's enough to convince them it's a problem and I'm not crazy...not what I expected of a $29k car.

I tried to post a vid...I will when I'm able. I went back to the dealership for a 3rd time and played them the video. The mechanic essentially blamed me and my bass volume for the issues, which I was not OK with. I keep everything on default, so that's totally out of place. They replaced the speakers and it didn't fix the issue. When I got back in my car they had messed with the speakers settings, pushing sound all the way to the back speakers. Didn't think anything of it at first, but when I adjusted the speakers back to default the rattle returned. I think they purposefully changed the settings and I guess hoped I wouldn't notice. Oddly enough, my car had to go to another mechanic for an insurance claim and I had a 2018 RAV4 for a week...it had the same issue! Front right passenger side rattle with music. It must be a manufacturing issue out of one of their plants. I'm not sure what else to think of it or what to do about it. Getting frustrated with the whole ordeal.

Just a question. Does the passenger side rattle even if not playing music or no rattle exists (left and/or right side) when the speakers are off?

Door rattles don't make a peep when music is off. The only rattles I hear when music is off are the dash mystery rattles, which comes and goes.

I asked because on my Prime the passenger side had a rather annoying rattle (but not the driver's side) even with no music playing. The issue was a piece of plastic underneath the dash side panel that was coming into contact with the steel frame underneath it. Putting some foam between the two solved the issue. Could it be that yours is behaving similarly but the effect gets exacerbated when the speakers are on? Just my $0.02...

You might be my hero, Albus! Maybe the rattle is faint and I don't hear it over the road noise, I'll be experimenting with that now and have my passengers on the lookout (or is it listenout?). I'll also bring it up at my next round with Toyota. It's gotta be something near the speaker, maybe a piece of the housing the speaker rests in isn't sitting properly. I know if I place pressure on the mid/lower door panel the rattling is drastically reduced.

check the latch... mine came shipped minus a bolt. brought it back to the dealer, they put the missing bolt on and the rattle went away.

kind of scary really thinking that the bolt was missing. thank god for the nader pin!

This same thing happened to me. I had a rattle under the center of the dash, seemingly from behind the big screen. I told them about it at my 15k service and they took off the dash and put some insulation in there to get rid of the noise. My dad has the same car and they needed to do the same thing to it. something about a loose piece in the XM radio antenna. So all is good and silent now. Now if they could just figure out why my Bluetooth cuts off every 7minutes and 50 seconds.

I have this rattle on the left side of the driver seat. It groans whenever I go over bumps, but I know it’s not related to the suspension as I can push on the car and don’t hear anything. Has anyone encountered something similar to this?

I’ve had my dash rattle fixed, but it’s back so that’ll be another thing for Toyota to deal with during the 10k service. This car sure has a lot of rattles. I guess that’s what happens when you buy the first generation.

Yes. The dealer found a rattle in the sirius radio antenna housing. My son has the same rattle in his Prime.

Not sure if this is consider a rattle, but technically it is..
When I have the music on, songs specifically with bass in it would rattle my passenger side B pillar (selt belt area). It's pretty annoying and can get louder than the music i currently have on.. which sucks.

Hummm, I just started to notice very faint ticking rattle noise in the dash. My Prime Premium is now 14 month old with 18K miles on it, but it did not have this noise before. It is not loud at all, but now I noticed it, it is hard to ignore. It only sounds when car is in motion but not always. It comes and goes at any speed. I don't see any loose piece from outside. Maybe "a loose piece in the XM radio antenna" mentioned here.

I will mention abou this rattle when I take my car to a dealer for the Rust on rear hatch handle | PriusChat .

I am currently at a dealership for rattle in the dash problem. They said it will take 3-4 hours to just take off the dash and look inside.

I will report what they find out.

They have to remove the whole dash???

I thought there were a couple of Technical Service Bulletins that the dealers can look up, and do a simple fix from under the dash. Maybe that was for the Gen4 non-Prime.

Sorry to hear that. I've seen lots of threads about rattles in the Prime, and non-Prime Gen4. That's very disappointing. Right from the get-go, owners are hearing rattles. It's not like these cars are 10 years old! I've had 3 recalls on my 2016, and 2 or 3 technical service bulletins to fix things. Ridiculous. Makes me question the Toyota build quality these days.

So they DID replace speakers under warranty?
Hmm...what did they think were wrong with the original ones? I mean usually speakers work or don't work. Strange they would replace the speakers, THEN blame you for your bass settings.

I kind of feel if you are dealing with the OEM sound system and OEM speakers, then they should not cause rattles. The vehicle should be designed to handle the equipment in it.
I also kind of feel that if the speakers are causing enough vibration to create a rattle, a good installer SHOULD be able to track that down, and stop the rattle.

And finally and most unpopular....How high do you have your bass set?

I'm the grumpy old guy that get's behind the "kid" who has a sound system seemingly designed to be registered by the International Seismic Institute, and wonders..Why?

You might be able to fix this by turning down you bass, and seeking out some music by a duo called " The Carpenters ".
