    That article isn't right - it says IONIQ hasn't got Automatic Emergency Braking ?

    HYUNDAI says clearly:
    "At the core of IONIQ’s Hybrid’s design focus is class-leading safety and engineering to take any road with comfort and ease. This includes 7 airbags and Hyundai SmartSense™ safety technology including Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Smart Cruise Control (SCC)."

    Good to hear. When I test drove an Ioniq Blue in 2016, their TSS-P required the top trim, not the Blue, and an option package. Only Toyota was dumber with no TSS-P in their ECO trim that year. It sold a 2014 BMW i3-REx to me.

    Thats what i dont really get about toyota, or any car brand in general that decides to do this... U have to pay to get safety features as emergency braking? Wth? Why? and why isnt there rules and regulations that say all safety assistance systems of the specific brand should be in the standard version, u shouldnt have to more to get safety features. We have had these features since like 2003, its about time it gets standard, even the new polo has emergency braking with bike detection and lane tracing assist as standard. But toyota keeps charging people for it...

    I wasent talking about Hyundai, i was talking about other car companies. For example BMW, they charge u 500 dollars for airbags in the rear seats... How is that legal? They also charge u 2000 dollars for their safety system in the 1-series and 3 series. Toyota charge u 3000 dollars here for the TSS in the Auris, the base version is so stripped im surprised it even comes with wheels. Its great that companies like VW, tesla and hyundai starts adding this in the base versions, hope they push all other car manifacturers to do it also.

    It is about costs. The Pinto prototypes had airbags and a plastic bladder for the gas tank. Marketing research showed the cost for those items were too high for the segment. The public says they want better safety and efficiency, but when it comes time to buy, most are unwilling to pay extra for those things.

    Then many don't understand how the advanced safety aids on their cars work; under what situations that the systems may not operate. So they may hit something by having too much faith in the systems. People don't read their manuals. The complaints in the reviews for a chainsaw I just bought were all addressed within the first couple pages of the manual.

    Well i guess... But things like that is getting cheaper and cheaper to put into cars, in Norway literally everything is extra... the car is so ripped if u buy it base, safety systems should be mandated by law to be on base cars. But they could do it descretly, like whenever a new generation of that specific model comes out, they can just up the price like 2000 dollars from the old one and put in all the safety systems. People seem to be more open to payng extra for a new generation, It would make the change way more subtile and make the extra u pay for it worth it more if that makes sense....

    And What they should do then is whenever they buy a car they must be forced to join a class to see how their systems work like in this pic LMAO:ROFLMAO::LOL: (its a joke guys)

    I have reservations about all this safety stuff. So many people are driving while on the phone or reading newspapers, it's like "the car will stop for me, I don't need to pay attention every single second". I worry too much safety development too fast will actually result in more crashes.

    But that's getting off topic. Sorry.

    Like.. im at the point of just saying "natural selection", only problem with them crashing is that they may kill someone totally innocent aswell. There should actually be mandatory classes or something for when u buy a car with features like this, or it should be implemented in the driving test and at driving school an all that. Driving schools focus so much on the student "being able to handle a car with no safety features" that they forget about teaching them what cars with these features r meant for... If that makes sense. These safety features wont go away, its coming no matter what, until cars eventually drive themselves. And its time driving schools starts adding this to their lectures and car manifacturers start teaching people what the features r for. Its not the car manifacturers fault that idiots dont understand how the system works, but i still think car manifacturers should start taking this seriously and almost literally force people to understand that these normal daily driving cars, even tho they have all these safety features, r not advanced enough to drive themselves.

    And ohh well, off topic it is LOL.

    That's odd - as far as I know, every car sold HERE has a minimum of 6 airbags - 2x front, 2x side in front seats, 2x curtain - and every BMW has at least that.

    But, I read that in India, they can be options, though front driver is almost standard nowdays but "... Safety features are not mandatory in cars sold in India. However, there are manufacturers who offer basic safety features like dual front airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) as standard ...".

    But HERE the new Corolla has standard - autonomous emergency braking (AEB) that works at all legal speeds and with pedestrian and cyclist warning at city speeds, adaptive cruise control, road-sign assist, lane-departure alert, and a lane-trace assist system, Auto High Beam LED headlights, as well as 6 airbags. That is becoming the norm on new car releases here.

    Maybe you need to lobby your legislators.

    Back in the stone age, I retrofitted backup lights on our 1960 Chevrolet Corvair. They were part of the top level model, but not on the the model we owned. Actually, I installed lenses for the next year's model which I was quite proud of.

    And then there was our 1961 VW beetle with the optional gas gauge. Without a gauge, you'd track miles since the last fillup. If you missed, the car lost power and sputtered as you used the last of the main supply of gas. If you were quick enough, you kicked the reserve tank lever and the car recovered without dying. There was an extra half gallon or so available from the "Reserve" tank.

    Progress.

    It confused people because you put the gas in under the hood, and raise the back to check & add oil.:D:LOL:
