You have to stare into space here, can't lock the pump on, at self-serve. And I've seen one instance too many: a locked on pump (at a full-serve), just AGUSHING, for about 3~4 minutes before an attendant noticed.

But yeah, plenty of opportunities besides fill up time, to do checks.

There’s another thread like this but ford solved it. Both this and the Ford thread are misleading, fake news headlines at its best.

Good old Mobil 1. Extended Performance 5W-30, to be exact. Guaranteed for 15,000 miles. :ROFLMAO:
But I still change it twice a year. And I drive like an old man, so thus I get better gas mileage than all you young crazy dudes. I got nothing but time.......

It takes me 3 minutes just to EXIT my little Disneyland car! ;) :ROFLMAO:

I need to spread all those chores out.

One day, check tire pressure. (15 minutes)
Another day, check oil and fluids. (5 minutes -- the Mendel five minute rule)
A third day, wipe & clean all windows. (6 minutes)
Fourth day, buy gas? Nah, I'm driving a Prius!

Darn, I still got 4 days left in the week!

I've got a 2006 Prius with 155K; started having the same issue on/around 130K miles and now I'm burning 1 qtr. every 1k miles; seems like a big issue with these vehicles; I've been religiously changing oil every 5K miles, changed spark plugs and PCV, put an oil catch can hoping to catch most of this oil but it seems that the engine is just burning up the oil; the car is 12-13 years old so not worth taking it to the dealership; seems I'm not alone with this issue; Toyota has got to do something about it.

Maybe combine those two: pull the dipstick, then check the pressures, then get back to the dipstick.

If your not catching a lot in the occ, clean/replace your pcv. You may be burning oil from your valve guide seals.

I'll do that; I replaced the PCV at 135K though for the same issue of too much oil consumption.

Sometimes I get scared when I see oils that can be used for 15000miles, and in your case only needs to be replaced twice a year.
After those miles and years, how does the oil drained always looks like? Does your maintenance required light comes on, before those 15000miles, or it does not lit at all?
I ha e only heard of 5000miles, or something for oil change. Something new to me in our part of the world(Lagos).

I checked my oil twice today while on my trip back home, and this thread makes me want to go check it again!! It hasn’t used enough to read on the stick since I changed it two weeks ago, but I still want to go check it.

I mean the level hasn't changed enough to see a difference. And yes I did go check it again. That’s three times today. :)

15000 in a Prius and there'd be no oil left if you didn't add any haha

Has anyone tried to do a chemical attack on the carbon deposits in the engine. The oil consumption is usually caused by build up on the piston rings. There are 2 easy things you can do. They will not return the engine to new condition, but they will help.
    1) Use Cataclean in the fuel. This product cleans catalytic converters. It has a side effect of cleaning the carbon deposits in the engine, intake manifold (from the injectors into the valves), and the exhaust manifold. This will erode the ring deposits from the combustion side.
    2) Use Motor Flush in the oil at the next oil change to clean the rings from the oil side.

I would also recommend checking the EGR system for deposits. Toyota uses cooled exhaust gas through the EGR valve to help limit the combustion chamber temperature. Once the EGR fouls up the temperature rises and you get fouled rings and the attendant oil consumption problem.
