Selling cells on eBay?

    My engine just died in my 2005 Prius (a hole in it somehow; a shop said ~$2500 to replace it). I'm having the body scrapped for $150.
    A couple months ago, I replaced three cells at ~$30 each on eBay.
    I'm about to test each cell in the whole battery to see if each is at what looks like a ”normal" voltage of 7.65 V. I'd then like to sell each cell on eBay, hopefully for ~$30 each.
    Is selling individual cells only okay if you have some special equipment to somehow recondition each cell? (Am I asking for a bunch of returned cells from unhappy buyers?)
    A local guy with a battery-replacement business offered to take the whole battery for $300... should I just sell to him?
    Also, can I safely sell the computer right next to the battery? I had bought one on eBay for about $150 a month ago, but it seemed like it changed nothing, so I returned that and kept my original.

    AFAIK, you can sell almost anything on eBay, without any written or implied warranty. Just sell them "AS IS" and "Used". That said, if I were you, I would take the $300 offer to get it out of my hand quickly. That's just my 2c.

    @ battery:
    $300 seems a fair core charge. If you're not going to get another Prius, I'd let them have it.

    @ "computer" as stated above, I'd offer it for sale on eBay providing a full description and indicating that it is an "as-is" sale but that you would be willing to work with a dissatisfied buyer to avoid a negative transaction rating.
    YMMV - but some $ is better than no $.

    Alternatively for both.....

    Somebody in Aridzona might be willing to pony up more for a G2 battery and/or 'puter.

    ...Just a thought.....

    In the future, you may want to spend more time investigating repairs. If you replace enough parts, you will eventually replace the faulty part, but you will have wasted time and money on unnecessary part replacement.

    Yep, that is a most excellent plan!

    HELL NO!!!!!!! The "core" value of that battery assembly is about $700, that is what a completely DEAD and "worthless" assembly is worth!

    For $50 you can purchase a QUALITY multi-chemisty battery charger for RC models that will do a good job of not only testing but fully charging the modules in your pack, allowing you to sell them with confidence.

    26 modules x $30 = $780, or well more than double what you were offered for the whole damned battery :eek: and you would still have the interconnects, relays, computers and the case to sell adding another $150 at least to your bounty!

    PS: You can likely get even $35 or $40/module from a CL ad if you live in a metropolitan area and take time to number the modules before checking and recharging and record the capacity of each. That means, even assuming 2 are "DOA" and there are only 26 good ones, you gross $1040 @ $40/ea!!!!!!
