Up north the Butte Fire is raging as well .

My car was covered in ash today and we are 150 miles away:eek:.

My thoughts are with the folks in Paradise as 80% of that town went away in a very short period of time.

Paradise fire. (150 miles north of San Francisco?) Now being called the most destructive fire in California history. ABC News reports 6,700 homes and structures burned as of tonight. Unbelievable.

I always wonder how many of these fires are arson? Quite a few, I suspect. The one down here is very suspicious. Started right after that shooting in the bar, when lots of police & fire resources were tied up.

The wife has a cousin whose a cop for Santa Rosa and was one of the first responders last year when those fires ravaged Santa Rosa.

He was in Nightline for his experiences that night, and the most memorable one he shared with me was saving an elderly woman from her home as it was on fire.

    A night he’ll never forget.

As for the number that are arson, not sure but I know it wouldn’t take much as the woods are dry and the low humidity isn’t helping.

Absolutely insane. There have been worse fires down here in Southern California. But up north, that is just crazy. Entire towns & cities wiped out in the past couple years? Was it last year, or earlier this year... Authorities caught one guy, and he admitted to lighting them off.

I've been here 65 years. Worst I can remember. Mandatory evacuations for 5 or 6 cities north of LA. Where do those people go?! 250,000 told to evacuate.

If you’re talking about down south, there was someone they caught doing that earlier this year.

Up here, I haven’t heard of a sole source.

It boggles my mind as to the why for doing that senseless act.

These were just small fires?... but those nuts are all over the place.

"The man suspected of starting a string of small fires in Santa Rosa and Graton last month was formally charged with felony arson and possession of a controlled substance on Thursday. ... The police department alleged Bautista lit an additional 13 fires along the trail in Santa Rosa two days later.Jul 5, 2018

I guess they must have been small, but the Fourth of July up here is a time where some counties still allow the lighting of fire works:mad:.

Those areas (usually around lake Berryessa) have a regrettable Fire and the terrain is not navigable for fire fighters, so they work on containing a larger area.

Wish the pyros would find another way to feed their needs:cool:.

Some have been linked to titanium(IRRC) golf clubs. Doesn't take much after an extended drought.

It is horrible for those in the aera of affect, but these lands evolved around these cyclical fires, and they are an important part of the ecology for many species. It is actual the same in NJ. They've just been saturated with rains lately.

So many arson fires. I can understand and accept natural fires, such as lightning strikes. But I have NO sympathy for arsonists. They should tie them up to a tree during the next fire!

And then you got the dumb irresponsible campers, who start a camp fire in unauthorized places. Or the homeless guy trying to stay warm. And the unbelievable story about the California Fire Captain/Arson Investigator who started 2,000 fires! If all the crazies got together at once, they could burn down this state.

Chief arson investigator in California town was also the man behind 2,000 blazes that killed four and destroyed millions in property in the 1980s and '90s. - NY Daily News
