Hey there ! I live in dark corner of the planet. In Nothern Norway, half of the year is almost pitch black :)
I like the low-beam light of my Prius PHV 2017, but the high beam is not bright enough, considering all the driving I have to do in darkness.

Has anyone installed extra lights on their Prius PHV/Prime? I am thinking about doing it. I was thinking of something like Lazer ST6 or ST4 (a little bit smaller)

I also heard that I need something called Canm8-device? The regulations here in Norway is that the extra lights must be turned on and of when the cars internal highbeams are turned on and off.

So does anyone done this before?
Has anyone idea of where I have to connect this Canm8-device to inside the Prius?
    Thanks :)

I'm surprise to hear that the Prius Prime high beam is not bright enough. To me it is very bright and I can see far, a lot better than many traditional yellow bulb.

    Hello

Have you already installed the high beams? How about the CANM8 controller, does it work? In Finland we have also loooong winter and it would be very nice to have more light. I have already ordered curved 80 cm wide led bar and I have plan to remove the lower grill and install the led bar there.

Hey there! I still havent found the Can-bus signal. I've searche for the signal with an CanM8 on the footwell in the cabin without any luck. Have you found it?
You should be careful removing the grill. The Prius PHV/Plugin (and maybe also normal Prius) has a "active grill shutter" that opens and closes to cotrol the air flow. I heard that one Canadian guy installed an engine block heater and accidentially let the wire through the active grill shutter and the car subsequently caught fire (!)

Ywah, i noticed that active shutter but i think as far as it is moving freely it will not be a problem. Where you have looked the can signal?
I asked straight from CANM8 and they send me these assebly instructions. I have not tested this yet but I think the controller is at the left side also LHD cars. I also check that there is white and green wire in OBD2 connector and I think it could be the same CAN BUS line, so I'm going to test first to get signal from OBD pins 6 and 14 and if it does not work then I test with the instructions. ljpgihmadfgljjne.png kbkgioghajjeomgh.png

@Nililol: I forgot to mention that we already have searche on the OBD2-port pins 6 and 14. No signal there. The prius from 2012 and back (i think) had the Can Hi and Lo on the 6th and 14th pin.

You guys make me feel guilty about complaining about the long, cold, dark winters in Minnesota.

A fourth-generation Prius car has several CAN buses—designated 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and diagnosis—all shown in the Multiplex Communication System (CAN) pages of the System Circuit section of the Electrical Wiring Diagram (more info). The New Car Features book also has bus diagrams, but Toyota doesn’t publish the on-the-wire details of addresses or message formats, as far as I know. The Network Gateway ECU is connected to all of the CAN buses and forwards data between them.

The diagnosis CAN bus is the only one present on the Data Link Connector 3 (also called the OBD II connector), where CANH is a violet wire on terminal 6, and CANL is a pink wire on terminal 14. These wire colors and terminal assignments apply to all fourth-generation Prius, Prius Prime, and Prius PHV cars.

Without knowing more about the device you’re installing, of course, I can’t say whether it would work if connected to the diagnosis bus, or if it must instead be connected to one of the other buses. I would hesitate to make such connections, however, especially if the device does more than listen only.

Nice to hear! Was the signal on the passenger side or the driver side?
