Well they took away lawn jarts and then pushed the plastic tip darts in place of real darts. Fair is fair, so from now on golfers need safety clubs with shafts made of wet clothesline.

Valley fever is a sneaky soil fungus. If it is increasing range, I suppose unusually dry soils are part of the story. Soil particles must get into lungs (or skin breaks) and wet particles do not fly well.

It is probably present in many areas where soils are not often dry, and 'know their place'.

 

2018 US wildfire area is still below 2015 and 2012. Total area burned in 1910 is not known, but it was real game changer.

Still.....39 million folks live in California, and yuge parts of the state have fewer than 5 folks per square mile.
What this means is that most of the really-really crowded parts of Caly.........like.....where the fires are happening, are not really losing that many people to Darwin given the large numbers involved, the fact that most people are reluctant to leave their homes and how unpredictable large wildfires can be.

Neither Malibu nor Paradise are particularly dense in human populations - 230 and 1440 per sq mile. Many urban densities in US are in 10,000 to 50,000 per sq mi range. Globally, peak packing is in 50,000 to 100,000 range.
