They show a 747 and a DC10. The only mention of anything new is an additional base in San Bernardino, which I assume would use the same planes.

The history of these planes worries me. A DC10 is rather old, and the 747 was retired from passenger service. Seems like they were built on the cheap. The 747 replaced a C-130 that lost its wings and crashed.

How Kim Kardashian’s private firefighters provoked a debate about inequality
    The Atlantic

“Rich people don’t get their own ‘better’ firefighters, or at least they aren’t supposed to.” Read the full story

The insurance companies AIG and Chubb have publicly talked about their private wildfire teams. AIG has its own “Wildfire Protection Unit,” while Chubb—and up to a dozen other insurers—contract with Wildfire Defense Systems, a Montana company that claims to have made 550 “wildfire responses on behalf of insurers,” Right now in California, the company has 53 engines working to protect close to 1,000 homes.

The 747 has been retired from passenger use by all U.S.-based carriers and many foreign carriers, but is still in active use by a number of major foreign carriers (and many minor ones too). I still see them flying over my house on approach to the local airports, and even flew on one of them earlier this year. It was still in great shape, merely less economical to operate (both fuel and crew) than newer designs.

But brand new 747 freighters are still coming off the factory line in nearly my back yard, and are in heavy use in the world's cargo fleet. There is still a significant supply of comparatively young 747s.

The 737 started flying two years before the 747, but the factory is still stamping out new ones as fast as it can (more than two per business day), with many thousands of new units still on order.

"Earlier this year, Boeing boosted 737 production from 47 to 52 aircraft monthly, and plans another hike to 57 aircraft monthly in 2019."

Refresh that NWS page for storm total. An area northeast of Chico that I think was burned in Camp Fire now has >3 inches of Doppler rain (which is estimated from radar returns). That would be enough for landslides and flooding.

No fair blaming God for not scheduling rain around there 13 days earlier, but it would have helped a lot.

Air quality has definitely improved and not a day too soon;).

We head to Folsom tomorrow for thanksgiving so the rain helps out a lot(y).
