Unfortunately, it is greed and less emphasis on technology that GM has phased out cars and the Volt.

They are looking at ICE SUV's and trucks as the higher profit centers. Concurrently, their only concentration to technology is based on option upgrades which can up the price of a vehicle by $10k. The finance companies make out, here. Since electronics are cheep to produce, especially in China, they have high margins. Due to technology, a small bump on the front bumper usually costing $1,000 to repair, may cost nearly $3k to repair due to proprietary electronic repair parts like radar and video sensors only available from specific dealers. On that basis, the repair industry wins and they profit over both the parts and labor. Insurance costs increase and insurance companies profit from higher premiums. A $1k no claim on a $1k deductible fender bender results in a $2k plus payout from the insurance company.

It's all about "greed" and making money.

The Auris and Avensis are being replaced by the Corolla. Toyota is consolidating their number of models.

I'm expecting the (Toyota) Yaris to not be continued in the US.

speaking of the Chinese versions, have you seen that newer 400+hp Cadillac version? I believe they only imported a few 100 into the US but dang, that is one sweet ride with every safety & luxury feature you can imagine. Not a bad deal too, as the prices, for all that you get are relatively reasonable. Oh wait all the fed money is gone for GM, right? Yeah it'll probably be killing that off too.

The CT6 PHEV? The 2018 is still listed on their site.

Would more likely be a PHEV version of the newly introduced XT4, now.

The Buick Envision is already built in China. Don't know of a hybrid, though.

I think maybe Prime now is overall better PHEV car than Volt...more roomy and so on, and the price is good with incentives. Volt gives you more miles on electric, but maybe 30 miles/8-9 KwH battery is the sweet spot for PHEV when you get right down to it. Toyota missed slightly on PiP with only 11 mile EV, but I would still go for that to be honest.

At least the pip had 5 seats. That's important to many, even more so then higher CS mode. Last time we sat in the prime, it didn't seem to have as large a capacity (passenger and cargo wise) then our Gen 2. I'll check the volume/numbers to be certain. In any event, electric range desires turn on what each individual estimates as their typical drive, so it would be hard to say what's best for most.

    Great news!!!

Just about the time that the last of the V2s are rolling off the nice person'y line I might be ready to get a nice, used example at bargain basement pricing.
    PLUS!!!

    Gas is down to <$2...

    Win win.

I thought about it too, but will a replacement HV battery be available in 10 years or so?

I tend to agree with the total volume comparison as shown.
Around 2010 the cargo space definition changed to the "EPA Cargo Space", which seems to allow quoting a bigger cargo space (for liftbacks, the EPA method seems to allow flexibility in splitting total space between passenger space and cargo space), so the Prime cargo space at 20-ft3 needs to be asterisked as the new EPA method. Bottom line with the cargo space definition changes, it is hard to compare the quoted numbers of 2005 vs. Prime.

I came to the realization that pretty much any LiON battery pack based on prismatic cells can be replaced by an 18650 or 2170 cell pack.

Well to be fair, the auris was always a corolla every where else lol, so we dont really loose it, Corolla is more like a gen3 Auris for us here. And im so glad to see the avensis gone, since it was supposed to be EU`s camry. Main reason its discontinued is because it was mainly an diesel option for the Auris tho, but the camry will be such a huge upgrade, so will the corolla sedan. Finally there wont be such a huge difference between the EU and US market.

And honestly, im not that surprised with them dropping the volt, the prime seems to have better reviews, atleast here... Wonder if GM will still sell it here in EU, i kind of doubt it, most likely gonna be a worldwide discontinue.
