Thanks Jimbo. I can buy it locally, even a bit better deal, just stressing about the charging method.

    Good to know, thanks.

I see the regular Apple phone charge adapter is 1 amp:

    upload_2018-12-1_11-14-42.png

And the larger one, comes with the iPad, is 2.1 amp:

    Info from the GB40 manual:

Yes we do. The Automobile and Touring Club of Finland (ATCF)
    Autoliitto |

120 000 members, I guess about 1 out of 10/20 car owners is a member, just out of curiosity, how popular is it elsewhere?
I'm not a member, can't remember the last time I needed help. Had a flat tire on the road maybe 20 years ago and had to call service to jump my Toyota Land Cruiser, sometime in the 90's.
    That's it.
Not sure if it's worth the 100 euros per year.

We even had a TV series about Triple A.
    (y)
Team Ahma (Team Wolverine) they drive a Saab 96 station wagon. It had a bit of the same vibe as the BBC series "The Detectorists" (which I thought was hilarious but many of my friends did not, if you like that kind of humor).

I got mine at the AutoZone just around the corner. They wanted quite a bit more than Amazon (About $40 more, iirc). So I showed them the Amazon price on my phone and said, "I won't blame you if you can't match this, but can you do anything?" To my surprise, they matched it! No waiting at all for shipping, just went home with it. So far, I have not needed it for myself or anyone else.

Can't find one with that low a price here.
According to the internjets this is the test winner and the one to get here 139,00 euros is the cheapest I could find. But I guess I could find other use for it also.

If he's in no hurry, why doesn't he buy a trickle charger and connect it up for a day or 2? They cost about $50-$60 here. And if he's going to be leaving it in future to go flat, it could be handy again.

To be honest, I wouldn't give anyone a jump start from any of my modern cars. I've heard of cases where, a simple "error" has cost thousands. I've told a couple of people - ring RACQ (our equivalent of AAA). Most people join RACQ with their cars here.

Well we had a chat with by brother and came to the conclusion that the problem was not the battery. All lights were bright and the starter didn't even try to start. He called his insurance company and the service truck just visited (they tried to jump it) but eventually the car was towed to Volkswagen service. Problem with the starter or with a clutch sensor apparently. He is old school, doesn't want an automatic, he always buys a Passat with a stick transmission. I've been telling him to get a Prius for years now. ;)

But I think I will get one anyway now. That Telwin one got the best reviews, but a bit pricey. I wonder if I can store that in the car when it's -20c in wintertime here.

I love a Manual shift - had a few autos over my almost 50yrs driving - but the previous 3 were Manuals - and PRIUS is Auto again, but miss a good 6sp Manual. Sadly, there are less and less Manuals around (here - despite them available overseas). And if I go PHEV or EV next time, there will never be a Manual available.

I meant to say, "About $40 more." Sorry if that was misleading. Too late now to edit it.

Thanks, Alan. Good point, but I hate to make extra work for a moderator for something that minor.

Well manual shifting cars are not what they used to be.
The was some light shed on the problem with my brothers VW Passat. It was a corroded clutch sensor (the engine could not start since "artificial intelligence" thought that the clutch pedal was not pressed down).
2 days in the shop 400 euros, factory guarantee ended 6 months ago.
So not a happy ending to this story.

An old Finnish joke from Lapland (above the arctic circle).

    Different winter temperatures (in celsius):
+10C People in Helsinki living in rental homes turn on central heating, people in Lapland plant flowers to the garden.
+5C People in Lapland go sunbathing (if the sun rises over the horizon).
+2C Italian cars will not start
    0C Distilled water freezes
-1C Your breath becomes visible. People in Helsinki start thinking about a holiday in the mediterranean. People in Lapland eat ice cream and drink cold beer
-4C The cat climbs into bed with you.
-10C People in Helsinki plan a vacation to Thailand. People in Lapland go swimming.
-12C So cold that that it no longer snows.
-15C American cars will not start
-18C People in Finland living in private properties turn on central heating (price of energy joke...)
    -20C Your breath becomes audible.
-22C French cars will not start. And it is too cold for skating.
-23C Politicians start making speeches on the state of homeless people.
-24C German cars will not start.
-29C Your cat wants to climb inside your pyjamas.
-30C Japanese cars will not start. People in Lapland curse, kick the tires of their Toyota and go fire up the old Lada at the back of the shed.
-31C Too cold to kiss. Your lips freeze together.
-39C Mercury freezes. People in Lapland button up their shirt.
-40C Alcohol freezes. People in Lapland get irritated.
    -273C Hell freezes over.
-273,15 Absolute freezing point. People in Lapland say that it's getting a bit nippy out there.

    Great stuff, @Jeppefinn!

I used to live on a tropical island. Much of my work was outside and often a little strenuous. My joke didn't have as many lines mainly because the temperature doesn't change that much. And it's not really a joke. LOL!

90F Jerry power-sweats and complains bitterly. Islanders are in their element.
80F Jerry doesn't mind going outside -- that much. Islanders wear long pants and long sleeves.
75F Jerry only needs one shower today. Islanders are getting chilly.
70F Jerry can finally get some work done. Islanders complain bitterly.
65F Only saw this a couple times. Jerry is happy as a clam. Islanders stay in bed under all the blankets they can find.
60F Just a theory since I never saw it happen. Jerry wears long sleeves. Islanders shatter if they fall down.

Jerry I get much the same feeling here in MS, I moved from NV where it snows 10 months of the year and am not (yet?) acclimated.

I will say, humidity matters. I feel as cold at 20F in MS as I did at 10F in NV, it just gets to 20F here less often.
