Hello everyone. I’m getting a whining sound from my 2005 Toyota Prius. it has a bad cell from the main hybrid battery but there is a whining sound(electric scooter liks) coming from the front of the car. Sounds like it coming from near the bottom of the engine but it’s hard to distinguish from where exactly. The whine starts when I start the car, it does not whine in stealth mode, it increase in volume as I increase the gas, it’s their when I’m in park and not driving. Any ideas? (Yes I’m in the process of changing my cell block first and then diagnose from then on) could a faulty hybrid battery cause whining sounds from the engine bay?
2013 v....Noise is pretty loud at 55 + mph...... goes away if you put it in Neutral. Much louder than it used to be...... I'm afraid it's a trani problem...... no trouble codes...... car runs fine......but whine hard to handle........ I wonder if it could have anything to do with the inveter pump or inverter... The inverter went out last summer but a new board was installed by Toyota.... 206,000 miles trans fluid changed twice...was black first time then almost as dark second time....now have synthetic. Looked at the fluid in the sunlight but didn't see any sparkles.... new 12 battery when inveter went out..... Thanks for any ideas...
I happened to be standing outside my 2010 while it was running, this morning. Screwed up my shifting-it-around-the-driveway-without-start-up maneuver, and decided to let it run till warmed up enough to shut itself down (the engine). My son remarked about it too: a faint high-pitched sound was noticeable, very steady.
