This was tweeted by @priuschat last night, how is there no discussion thread on this already? Seems like pretty big news for some of us... :)

This is the most relevant thread I could find.

Does anyone speak Japanese and can translate the text on the page? Google translate only picks up a bit of it, and not very useful. I just hope this is really the Prime, and not just the Liftback, since the 11” can now be had on the ‘19.

I realize that, but I am always a bit skeptical about unofficial leaks and stuff like that.

I remember there being quite a few people who weren’t thrilled about the 4-seats (myself included), not to mention this thread got to 14 pages....

WOW - I commented ages ago that I was interested in a PHEV PRIME - but 4 seats would rule it out. Not to get TOYOTA to bring it to Australia.

Hard to tell if it's the Prime or not.

The Japanese text is simply talking about the seats (presumably the front).

Paraphrasing it, it basically says when you're riding in the car, the comfort is translated to the whole body and that the space is ergonomically designed such that travel time becomes relaxation time. In typical Japanese fashion, the last line basically says "please try it out on your next holiday trip".

I just checked on Toyota.jp - it says nothing that I could find.

BUT what I did find was:

    AND

100 volt is unusual - not 110 or 240, but maybe Japan uses 100v?

lol.. do not know. I assume Danny owns the PC Twitter account?

Thermo-Tec Lime Green is nothing new. It was available only in Japan and was available for both the Gen 4 and Prime at launch in Japan. It's interesting that they're ending production. Not that popular I guess?

Japan uses 100V. It takes 16 hours to charge a Prime at home (100V/6A) so you pretty much need an EVSE if you were in Japan. Both NA, Europe and I assume Oceania have reasonable household outlet charge times (2h40m to 5h:30m)

    We're 240v here.

Yes, I remember Thermo-Tec Lime Juice was one of the first things I noticed - like being in the tropics, it caught my attention. But the local dealer said there was no chance of it ever arriving here - if it hadn't even turned up in USA.

It was probably a bit risky as a long-term investment, as it eliminated the carbon black which is in almost every paint (including white, I believe) - so maybe it hasn't stood up to the test of time - or nobody bought it?

I've had 3 yellow cars - all bought 2nd hand - but at least you don't lose them in a carpark:rolleyes::rolleyes:.

Hopefully they can apply that technology to other colours.

I'm guessing it had a higher cost to it that made it unattractive to Toyota, consumers, or both.

If by EVSE, you mean level 2 home charging, the homes with 100V/6A can't support it. Which is why the Japanese Prime has CHAdeMO standard.

Or the colour itself? It is highlighter yellow after all.

Yeah I was thinking level 2. Hmm. So you’re saying the Japanese have to use public charging if they want to own an EV?

I liked the color, and some would look past it if it did actually help cool the car, but it was limited to Japan only.

The info on Japan's grid is buried in the reveal thread. Basically, half the residences in Japan would take twice as long to charge a Prime as in the US, and can't support Level 2 EVSE's. The greater need for public charging is why the CHAdeMO standard was set before the arrival of the Leaf, and partly why hydrogen FCEV's are being pushed there.

Not all homes are that way but to address those who are that is why they have the optional solar panel in Japan

I wonder how the solar option is selling? In fact we've seen very little Japan Prius sales data lately, although Gen4 was flying off the lots there.

To see a balance: The Toyota C-HR, last year’s number three, dropped out of the list to 11th.
