as far as more power in power, it feels that way because you have to mash the pedal to the floor in eco to get the same rpm response.
    normal is in between.

the other thing with eco is suppression of hvac, but that doesn't affect performance.

    Interesting thread.
But difficult problem to diagnosis given the information available.

I'm not sure whether it's a problem with the power mode or activation of the power mode, or just a problem with the engine as a whole.

Would I be oversimplifying if I just said take it to a dealership and let them diagnose?

I agree, that Power Mode....does NOT change the engine. It changes the distance traveled and the mapping of the reaction between the accelerator pedal and the engine. The engine kicks in quicker, with less pedal distance traveled. But IMO actually being in power mode, doesn't "Shazam" your vehicle into having more actual power. It's the same machine, just reacting differently.

I pretty much only used Power Mode for quicker accelerations onto crowded freeways. Otherwise it seemed counter to how I wanted to use my Prius. I also admit, I was never one of those that regularly drove in Power Mode as a daily or long term choice. My personal feeling and opinion was that was counter to what really owning a Hybrid and Prius was all about for me.

But I concede I have no idea what is actually going on with the vehicle the OP is talking about. If there is a problem with the engine or the transmission separately, I would think that could affect how "Power Mode" feels or works in usage.
If I felt there was a problem, my first step would be trying to confirm whether the vehicle actually is in Power Mode even if pressed and the light displayed. If it is? And still feels sluggish, then the problem wouldn't actually be the "mode" it's in, but something else.

But I can't know or tell whether this problems is engine, transmission-hardware system based...or computer selection based. And determining that would be the first step to actually solving the problem.

When I kicked the pedal I felt that electric engine doesn't helps to petrol engine, btw battery was more than 60%, it's way too much too give power to accel fast. I asked my friend to open then hood, and the hood was really heavy, I anderstood that car had acident in past, prius has aluminium hood from factory, after acident they put iron one, after that I checked car history and there was wroten that driver brought car to dealer with no liquid cooler in inventer, and they canceled warranty on hybrid system. I think problem is in inventer, it works but not properly. When I tried to turn on EV on speed 35 km/h, it was imposible because eccesive speed, its not normal prius turns on EV from 0 to 50 km/h. Also kicking pedal to the floor electric motor gives feeling of small turbo charger helping petrol engine, this thing I didnot feel. Lets see what could be, I'm really sorry for my friend he paid close to $ 8k
