My buddy just bought a basic model 2015 Prius, he was telling me about his son's 2018 Prius that can charge on 120Vac at his home, and I believe he said the car gets roughly 200 mi. on an overnight charge. My buddy made it sound like his car doesn't charge on 120V outlets.

From what I found doing a simple google search, it looks like the 2015 comes with a 120Vac charging kit and needs a 15A rated outlet. Is this correct?

If so, is there a charge cable adapter that is used when charging on 120Vac?

Are there pages anyone knows of that deal specifically with this issue?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    welcome!

your friend is either sadly mistaken, lying, or just pulling your chain.

if you want a prius that plugs in, you have to buy the plug in model.

generation 1 (pip) from 2012-2015, 10 miles of ev, charges in 3 hours with oem cable, or 1 1/2 hours with 240v aftermarket cable.

generation 2 (prime) 25 miles ev. same charging set ups, longer charging time.

your prius cannot be made to charge from the wall, it has a one mile battery, made for storing and using what would be wasted energy from coasting and braking.

Thanks guys, I never owned a Prius so I didn't know what was possible. He's not very technical, maybe he just didn't understand what his son told him. Anyway thankjs for clearing that up.

How do I mark this as being resolved? New to this forum.

You were talking to my dad? He commonly expresses such misunderstandings, especially when it comes to bragging about how great his kids are.
    This forum lacks that concept.

I closed the thread. Probably the closest to “resolved”
