    Hello PC,

I'm having a very miserable night with my first hybrid camry repair (I'm a gen2 prius guy)

Hopefully somebody can give me some insight as to what is causing this no start issue.

Initial issue was the Check Hybrid System warning on the car, but the car still drove, the obd port was not functional so I was not able to scan it but the owner of the car says there was a p0a80 code when it did work.

I removed hybrid battery and to my surprise modules tested between 7.94 and 8.21

I assumed it was the variance in voltage that was the problem, I removed modules from existing battery and put them in another battery I had which made voltage between 8.03-8.16

I installed that battery and the car would not turn on, sometimes ready would flash 2-3 times sometimes it wouldn't turn on at all.

I checked all plugs and ground connections and couldn't find anything wrong.

I swapped the junction box and the battery voltage sensor from the original battery thinking that could be the problem and the problem persists.

Any suggestions as to what the problem/solution could be would be greatly appreciated.

In the meantime I am putting modules back in the original battery but realistically what is there that wasnt put on the other battery? The temp sensor and voltage sensor harness?

Your orange interlock on the battery should be locked, flip up and slide down (in gen2, it's down) to lock it

Did you check your 12v voltage?

Most hybrid systems will not work tell you balance charge the battery pack. Meaning you need to put all the cells in parallel and charge em tell they are all 8 volts equal. Then and only then will the hybrid system accept and run the car correcly small variances are tolerable but anything a 20th of a volt is usually red flagged by the bms and the car will limp or may just sit idle.

I learned from diy experiance and alot of forums online. Mostly on my honda ima cars and studying the mode of failure on the toyota hybrids when the bms flags the ecu of a battery issue. You need a scan tool to monitor the cells from the bms in the toyota. A torque app from the android play store and bluetooth adaptor obd adapter.

Upon arrival the modules ranged from 7.94-8.21 and the car was running and driving, they now range from 8.03-8.16 and the car does not ready on.

The other thing you need to check is your battery contactor if its clicking when you press the on button.

Have you grounded the battery case to the car? Put in the mounting bolts

What's the voltage on the entire battery pack? I still think you don't have the orange interlock locked in place.

You would have to trace your steps, check if all the bolts tighten, all the connections tight. No reason it won't start now, it's in the battery connections

Try disconnecting the 12v negative and reset the car

Make sure to check all fuses and also do a reset of the small battery before and after all wiring changes so the ecu can reset and relearn. Best of luck on your car.

Removed and reinstalled battery twice checking everything, I was just able to catch the obd port working long enough to get codes and I have:

P0b79 (hybrid battery voltage sense M circuit low)

U029A (lost communication with hybrid battery pack sensor module)

    P0A80 (replace hybrid battery pack
