I wonder how much actual 4K dashcam price would be.
Many years ago when 1080p came on dashcams, most of them was upscaled from lower resolution. Same thing with 2K and now with 4K.
Here is some nice extra info: The list of shame fake 4K dash cameras Ultra HD | DashCamTalk

Edit: for example it says on Amazon page Rexit V1 3rd gen uses OV4689 sensor. That is 4MP CMOS sensor. 8MP is needed for real 4K.
I really dislike that these kind a stuff are false marketed as they are upscaled so often.

If I'm not mistaken, they are already a factory option on the Corvette. I think Toyota & Jeep both offer wiring & mount options for action cameras like the gopro.

Quite a bit more. For $130, there should be a realistic expectation that quality will pale in comparison to a $400 Sony ActionCam. That's why watching samples of actual footage from others is so important. I was more interested in the low-light ability than razor sharp 4K. After all, I was fine with just HD for years. For that matter, most people weren't even aware of the difference between 720 and 1080 anyway.

Don't overlook the UHD aspect of the sensor either. The resulting vibrant color looks really good even at lower resolutions.

GoPro is really nice, lots of flexibility and great quality, but the system has a thermal tolerance much lower than dashcams. That would be a real problem in the summer.

I've been shooting with them in a lot of different environments for a while now. I rarely get an overheat, but to be fair I never loop-record while mounted in a greenhouse on a summer day. Dashcams have always faced a different challenge.

Good picture night and day, easy access via phone, low price... it sounds like you've found a winner!

Like I already stated, this 4K camera & it's footage are great.

Having said that & being the owner of several "lesser" front and rear mount cameras I feel compelled to make this statement:

When it comes to any typical accident, having any camera at any mediocre resolution (720p/1080p) is a good/great thing. Meaning the ability to capture the basic facts & details are all that's needed for the insurance company and court room.

    Low resolution cameras don't lie....

I've never had a dash cam in any of my cars, so I know nothing about dash cam. That said, having my old car wrecked by my son recently, I am now interested in installing one on my other car. The question I have is if dash cam captures the scene of the accident, and it shows evidence that I am at fault, do I have to turn in that evidence to my insurance company or law enforcement?

I'm not a lawyer, maybe we can get one of our legal minds to answer that question...

I hope someone can answer. Really, in case of an accident, the dash cam recorded video can work for you or against you. So I have to wonder, do I want that hard evidence recorded or not???

Dash cameras like the OP's are great to have, I personally believe any cons are greatly outweighed by all the pros.

You could always keep a spare sd card with the camera for any unfortunate incidence (cough cough), then swap them if needed.

Just a hunch: if the cops got wind of it, they might seek a court order to view it. Deleting it might work against you too, but not sure how that could be proved. I think the folks who buy them tend to be responsible drivers, and ok with letting the chips fall where they will?

YouTube is full of video from Russia, looks like everyone there has one.
Another point, sometimes things happen to your car and there is no other car or another person to blame and it still isn't your fault.

Insurance fraud is rampant in Russia. It's gotten to the point where you pretty much can't get a claim paid (or defend against a bad claim) without submitting footage. The last couple times I worked over there our drivers were being targeted by scammers until we got dashcams, then magically people stopped accidentally stumbling in the path of our vans.

If anyone is looking for a dashcam under $100, look at the Viofo A119 and A119S(better for night). Try not to buy from China and buy from a reputable seller like Amazon itself. Spytec is also good.

Also buy high endurance memory cards because regular ones may fail more and don't have warranty when used in a dashcam. I would recommend at least 64GB. The best brand is probably Transcend high endurance, then Samsung pro endurance, then Sandisk high endurance.

A few years ago I had an A118c and someone broke into my wife's car at daycare. Luckily the Focus had a 10 minute delay so it recorded the thief. The thief walked right in front of the camera then broke the passenger window to steal my wife's purse and cell phone. When the police came, I gave them the video footage on USB and a screenshot of the thief. A week later the police said the thief probably ran out of town. You would think giving them all the evidence on a silver platter would make it easier to find the thief. Even if you gave great footage, it may not do you any good. :(

You would think that but it isn't done the way they do it on TV. They always get their man in a 30 minute or one hour show.
