    Blast away:p.

Then if you want to follow it up with an oxI clean or carb cleaner chaser, it’ll make that process very easy:).

But there are options, and in the words of Nike: just do it(y).

I guess you could also us a glass beader or sand blaster. That would clean it out!

I used this to clean out the EGR cooler, bought it from Costco years ago. Now you can get it in Amazon. Bonaire water blaster.

The tip fits perfectly inside the opening of the EGR cooler. Cleans everything out. And you can still reuse it around the house Screenshot_2019-01-06-13-55-20.jpeg

Will it bend to an acute angle? Thinking eavestroughs.

Oh: see one of the little pics, the guy is doing just that.

Similar nozzle to my pressure washer:).

And it was just laying around my house too;).

How did you secure the cooler while you sprayed it?

I used a metal lawn chair that had a slotted back and the cooler locks nicely into place (y).

I just held the cooler with my hand and turned on the water. It attaches to a regular garden hose. Sprayed everything into a bucket and poured it out in my neighbor's yard

ha ha ha that's just funny! :)

When I get around to cleaning my spare cooler I'll soak it good with oven cleaner and then try my pressure washer.
And will probably go ahead and clean the house while I have it out!

Pressure washer might be worth trying on intake manifold too.

I'm still waiting for some one to put out a physical EGR delete mod (including software) for the Prius...for off-road use of course. ;)

Just what I've read here: blocking the EGR raises engine temps, a lot. In general, not good. Maybe @mjoo can explain?

Not block...remove it all (valve, cooler, pipe/s) and update the S/W...like I did on my TDI. Had a lot of nay sayers on that one too, but the engine ran better than ever after I did it. Unfortunately, the rest of the VW was a POS.

They said that about VW S/W as well...but it was done. I doubt anyone is going to waste time trying to make a Prius kit anyway because there's not enough demand or "need" for this mod, unlike diesels. I'm certainly not.

The intake doesn't get the carbon buildup like the exhaust. Brake cleaner/carb cleaner, will work. I used gunk. It really cleans
off the oil. I think the pressure washer would be overkill. But if it was already out to clean the coolerrrrr....... :)

So,,, around $600 and a day or so of work. For what? A feeling?
You 'Felt' it was necessary? That's an expensive feeling... (the pics didn't look bad at all,,, to me....)

Problem? Is there data to support this problem?

Yes, more data. Those deposits will be there again after, what, ?10k miles?
Some of the posted pics of coolers look incredibly open!

mjoo likes to say "engine temps".. "a lot"???? Does he have data to support that claim?
What exactly is this 'engine temps? Combustion temps/pressures? EGT? Coolant?

Look, there are many current engines not using an EGR system. How is that explained?
AND they use the exact same O² sensor which maintains the proper A/F ratio to keep the Cat Converter happy (and the air behind the car!(y)).
Why does he think this engine will operate at unclean/unsafe mixture ratios?

If this delicate little ICE can't survive without a really clean EGR circuit, how are there so many High Mileage Gen 3 out there?
Could it be the car's system has a sensor to show IF there is a problem and a distinct fault code for a badly (?) clogged EGR system?

I feel like the myth buster on this subject.o_O
Only none of this small group of cheer leaders, for doing all this extra, questionable 'Preventative Maintenance' might not speak up when at ?250k miles? their head gasket goes bad anyway.
That would be interesting data. You need data for it to be a 'Known Problem'. Anything else is "Hearsay".:(

    @tankyuong Pump was $245 from Toyota dealer.[/QUOTE]

That's cheap!. I think all the pumps are made by Toyota but when sold by aftermarket, the name are scraped off. I bought Beck-Arnley one from RockAuto last month, it was made by Aisin and scraped metal at the usual location.
