One of the great things about London is the lack of guns, low life's are everywhere so thank a higher power if there is one that they aren't as available here. Those places where guns are freely available have their own problems and likely always have problems until guns are restricted to just the police and military and then prey they aren't corrupt. Just my tuppence worth on that

Aye! The lack of guns is great. Shame about the incessant stabbings though.......

True it is a shame, and great that those idiots didn't have automatic weapons can you imagine what the death toll would be then? A mad man with a knife can be stopped a lot quicker than a madman armed with guns. Hell your legs can be effective against a man with a knife, try outrunning a bullet or 10!

Yea but there is nothing like a round being chambered into a shotgun to make chills run up the spine of a thief.

I fear we may not have seen the last of the crime syndicate who are ripping Catalytic Converters from under Gen 2 Prii.

    A sudden thought struck me on my commute home; these parasites, encouraged by the complete lack of any London law enforcement action against them, may well step up their crime spree to a new level;

I ask you, what else does a Gen 2 Prius have, that’s worth stealing? Answers from anyone would be appreciated.
However, I’m thinking about the HV battery in every Prius.

What is it worth as scrap? I strongly suspect that these secret factories smelting down stolen Prius Catalytic Converters will soon be expanding their operations to recovering the wide range of precious metals and chemicals used in making those old but reliable NiMH HV Traction Batteries.

There’s probably a market for that stuff too.
Will we suddenly start suffering a spate of 2nd Gen Prius thefts or worse still, Prius jackings by these unchallenged parasitic life forms?

Will we get mugged and beaten up for our Prii next? Or will you wake up in the morning to discover your Prius is missing, only to be found later, probably burned out, with the HV battery (and perhaps the engine) missing?

Are those fully electric air conditioning condensers worth a lot on the 2nd hand market in some obscure 3rd world country where they can probably be repurposed to run some custom made clandestine equipment used for purposes we cannot begin to imagine?

Am I just plain PARANOID , and talking complete BULL (bleep).....?
Or have I just got them proverbial BATS in my Belfry?

    Answers as you see fit!

Just had my 2004 previous cat stolen two days ago on January 10 2019 in Bermondsey london near the rothirite tunnel parked up on the road. and now my car is worthless. Check my YouTube video out and I’ve got a video of me driving it which sounds pretty awesome as the car pops and bangs like a sports car but then again Prius owners don’t really want that but I don’t mind.
    unfortunately

Thanks for posting this. Sorry to hear your Prius was targeted in Bermondsey too. That’s where mine got robbed as well.

Look at the behaviour of that brazen cocky bastard stealing the Catalytic Converter with a sense of superior entitlement.
Look at his body language. Top dog. Predator. He literally owns the road!

Londoners are now treated like inconsequential SHEEP in their own city, forced to wait patiently while he commits his dastardly crime - disabling yet another reliable Prius in the process, and inflicting unimaginable problems on the unfortunate owner who doubtlessly relies on the vehicle for day to day needs!

And nobody dared to stop him - not that I blame anyone - he or his accomplice (the getaway driver) could be armed with zombie knives, a concealed gun, and even that electric razor saw he’s toting can be used as a weapon.
Not a good way or a nice reason to die or be severely wounded by this parasite.

Decent motorists do not carry a spare baseball bat with them on their travels, anyway, and though that.....thing.....deserves to be....punished in so many ways that involves immense physical pain and prolonged suffering, I cannot blame anyone for not having a go.

The unwanted bonus of the Police abseiling from helicopters to arrest you for beating the thief into a well deserved pulp underlines the whole irony of this sordid situation.

These Prius Parasites have been stealing cats over the last 4 months (120 days) in Greater London, and the Police STILL haven’t tracked them down or arrested them!

I’d have them up on a charge of eco-terrorism for exclusively attacking Prius cars. Each Catalytic Converter stolen increases emissions in London (till it’s replaced). Not everyone who has their Prius written off as a result can go out and buy another one.
That should put this issue at the top of the Police agenda.

I’ve practically given up on the Police protecting me now, even though I pay my taxes and am a law abiding citizen. Part of my taxes fund their services but they’re being starved of funds by a Govt which seems hellbent on inciting vigilantism among the London populace due to the lack of effective policing, and the unrelenting unprecedented level of crime now inflicted upon them. Almost everybody is now a victim in one way or another.

I feel I’m being scammed from two angles; a government that deems me and my property no longer worthy of police protection (but unfailingly, cynically, continues to take my taxes), and brazen empowered criminals who have declared OPEN SEASON on innocent London folk.
    With malice aforethought.

You REALLY couldn’t make it up!

Absolutely shocking to hear that these catalytic converter thefts from 2003 - 2009 2nd Generation Prius vehicles is continuing unabated. Very, very disappointed in our law enforcement, and by extension, the government - totally incapable of protecting ordinary citizens property within reason.

I wonder if ALL the affected Prius owners could take part in a Class Action Suit against the Metropolitan Police (who in turn can freely BLAME the government for starving them of funds thereby endangering the safety and well-being of London’s citizens) for allowing a crime syndicate to wantonly run riot all over London over the past 4 months, Resulting in incalculable damage costs to hundreds of Prii and the resultant disruptive effect on all their owners.

This isn’t to punish the already heavily put upon Police Force.....but to deeply embarrass this increasingly inept Government that allowed Greater London to be turned into a free for all Theft Fest for criminals from anywhere!

Should we set compensation at £32,000 per burgled Prius owner? About enough to get a brand new Prius IV or even a PHEV 2nd generation

Apart from an overdeveloped sense of dark humour with large dollops of sarcasm thrown in for good measure (evident in many of my postings), I believe I am of sound mind and body.

On second thoughts, scrap the bit about the body; I’ve just discovered I’ve got the dreaded SHINGLES....!!!! Hurts like hell...!!!
    D’oh!

By the way, the thieves are still at it. They were confronted by a colleague of my wife, when they were busy stealing from a Prius on a street as she was driving by.

She stopped and bravely confronted them. They aggressively yelled at her to drive on. She refused. She positively identified them as Romanian.

When they’d successfully extracted the catalytic converter from their latest victim, the masked highway robber decided to teach her a lesson by smashing the detachable metallic bar from the jack repeatedly on the bonnet of her car, causing considerable damage.

    Then they cowardly drove off.

Not satisfied with brazenly stealing CATs from Prii, they’re now graduating to attacking women in our streets when confronted.

I guess we’re not allowed to fight back as the criminals human rights are now paramount in the UK.

Good heavens! It looks like a rather brief news announcement DID go out to the population of London in late December 2018!

It certainly wasn’t on every news channel, and NONE of the newspapers picked it up either .

Too little too late. According to this news bulletin, by that time, over 900 vehicles (I’d like to assume mostly 2nd Gen Prius vehicles) had been attacked.
And it’s still going on. They still haven’t been caught.

My CAT was stolen today from the leisure centre car park in Wanstead E11. I had no idea what had happened and called AA. Rescue guy said it was his second Prius today. It’s been a brilliant car (2009) and I can’t quite believe it. Shocked to see how big a problem this is....
