The reality is, they’re using cloned plates. From across the country too. Last time they were caught on video camera, they’d cloned plates from an identical vehicle in Scotland...!!!

Well, the Police seem rather reluctant to go after them, so yeah, they’re SO untouchable right now. Woe betide any vigilante who decides to go Batman on their worthless hides. I guess we’ll see the Police spring into action then.....the vigilante will COP it......

    This.....is infinitely depressing

Sure looks like it to me. I don’t perceive that gesture as an apology for holding up traffic in both directions while he committed Grand Theft CAT - with a grandiose sense of entitlement coupled with shameless malice aforethought

It's the sign of the times when people are either out of work or can't find a decent paying job.

Or they work for the federal government and are issued IOU's to pay for their rent and food.

This world is speedily descending into a dystopian nightmare!

The only thing missing is an Alien invasion from highly advanced but inherently cannibalistic creatures who come here solely to harvest......MANKIND. We’re a delicacy to their palate and highly prized.

So, they turn up first threatening to annihilate the earth including the human race, then pathetic and helpless governments make a pact with the carnivorous ETs; they’ll spare this planet and its infrastructure IF they’re allowed to “take” a predetermined quota of delicious soft juicy humans from the planet on a regular basis without hindrance.

Our various rulers agree that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.....or the one. So our (imaginary at this point) Carnivorous Aliens proceed to help themselves while the governments across the world turn a blind eye and allow a couple of hundred thousand humans a year to be unceremoniously harvested (alive of course, as our hungry visitors like to play with their food before, um, devouring it. Slowly. Alive).

There might even be an enforced monthly lottery to choose who gets to spend their last days as finger food for the Aliens.

Now that would be the ultimate dystopian nightmare! This is where it starts! When law and order decide to voluntarily give up for the “greater good”....

Oh wait! That’s a sci-fi script right there! That would make a nice Netflix movie! I get dibs on the copyright!!!

    (Yes.....I’m finally loosing my marbles)

It is a shame when people resort to this type of behavior.
I noticed it was daylight, the individual had a mask on and in a high traffic area. I think if they tried a stunt like that in Texas or parts of the South in America they would significantly reduce their chances of a normal lifespan.

There's a thing up here, the Phoenix Payroll System, for government employees: glitch prone to the point they might as well be out of work. Been going on for close to two year now?

    Sorry for the topic-drift.

I always thought it was a good thing working for the government (super high pensions), but I guess it depends on which department you work for. I do feel sorry for the ones caught up in this government shutdown, it's like your 2 year "glitch".

I just sold my factory cat after replacing it with a cheap eBay one. I couldn't believe that I was about to get $400 for it. No wonder people are stealing these things.

In your region, would witnesses stopping or detaining such offenders caught during the act be considered vigilantes?

In much (but not all) of the U.S., witnesses taking immediate action to stop a crime, or detain perps until police arrive and take over custody, would not usually be considered vigilantes, at least by law enforcement and judicial entities. (Common news media are a different matter.) Self-defense, defense of innocent parties, and citizen's arrests fall under such concepts.

Only non-witnesses going after alleged suspects later, or anyone meting out extra-judicial punishments (rather than simple detention while awaiting arrival of police), would be treated as vigilantes.

There are exceptions, where any witness or victim intervention may get punished. And it seems these places have some correlation with the strongest gun controls.
