I’m just generally courious why some you picked the V over the other Pri?

I have a 2013 V two. Had mine for almost 2 years. I picked mine because my options were limited at the time and I mainly choice it for it’s interior space. That’s what sold me on it since I’m 6ft tall and climbing in and out of subcompact cars is a task and most of the time I end up feel cramped. Which wasn’t the case with the V. I almost want to compare the interior space to my first car, which was a 1989 Crystler New Yorker town car.

So why do you pick the V?

I used my previous Prius as a 'work truck' and it was very tight, especially for the ladder. (If i got the feet dirty, they got the seat dirty.

The v had a great deal more room and I could stow the ladder with the feet towards the back.

Interior space was the main factor for me too. But my other choices were a Chevrolet Sonic hatch and a Mazda 3 hatch. (I forget if there were any others now)...

Utility. Novelty. It replaced a perfectly functional but aging CRV and a Porsche Boxster.

Why did I get rid of the CRV, because I'd just been screwed by Honda on my wife's Acura. The Porsche, because I got tired of juggling cars between the garage and the driveway to get the right one out for the weather and the functionality. An I was getting too old to get in and out of it easily.

Novelty: Because of the display, the CVT, the hybrid nature. To a certain point, it is still a toy replacing the Porsche.

Utility: This afternoon I'll take a huge box of recyclables plus several bags of trash and a stack of newspapers to the waste processing facility. I'll get 40MPG doing it. My NFL lineman sized son and his even taller brother can fit. So can the three grandkids and my wife and I. It's functionality replaced that of the CRV.

Every car has its pluses and minuses.

Needed something to replace our 20MPG minivan! It does a wonderful job.

I wish the fuel economy would be a bit better but I knew going in that it would never come close to our liftback.

mikefocke, the Porsche engineers may be scrambling as we type! Or maybe that should be tears of sorrow. I’ve gotten to sit in one, but never drove one...

    I could physically fit better, I'm 6'2".

Our '08 is my wife's car, but I could not get comfortable in it, plus the v rides better.

In 2011 we had a 2001 Honda Accord, a 2002 Toyota Tundra and a 2008 Prius Model 3. Mpgs were 18, 15, and 50 respectively. Drove the 2012 Prius v, a hard car to find in November 2011, and liked the size, highway ride (with bigger tires than the 08 and pitch and bounce control) and the built in navigation without buying the top model. Sold the Accord and Tundra for a big down payment and paid it off 2.5 years later. That 2011 Prius v build (2012 model) is still cruising and going on eight years old. I can get 10ft pipe and lumber in it and close the hatch, probably have had 20 bags of mulch at one time and 200k miles later it is still on its original brakes, second set of tires (factory and Michelins) the paint is beautiful, cold air (more powerful than the standard Prius), etc. Did have a showdown with the XM preamp in the antenna base the dealer was clueless about, have changed several sets of headlight bulbs since I run them full time (~$15 each time) and just last week (wait for it), I changed the factory 12v battery (the car wash apparently discharged it and I had to jump it for just the second time). It did start with one of those lithium jump starters (took a couple of minutes). No front end work or alignment, it did get an inverter/converter replacement several years ago even after the factory reflash. That episode was the biggest problem.

I must say I'm eyeing the Tesla Model Y as my first EV. But if I can't sleep in it with just the back seat folded down then probably no go.

You guys think is V is better than the standard Prius? Like reliability wise?

No, the drive train is the same, except the final drive ratio. so, engine, inverter, transaxle, battery all pretty much the same. It weighs more and is less aerodynamic, so MPG is lower. (That final drive ratio does not help) But it can hold a lot of cargo!

So pretty much on the reliability aspect, you’d say they’re equal?

Since the powertrain has increased load I’d say slightly less reliable.

In theory, the same components are doing more work. In practice, they are so reliable that it will be hard to measure any difference.

Mostly I think you are looking for a difference which is not there. They are Gen 3 Prius in a larger style.

A liftback would have no trouble carrying 96 cheesecakes, but they would block the view.

My previous vehicle was a 2010 Prius 2. By replacing it with a 2013 Prius V 2, I gained a lot of interior room. The main advantage is the increase in rear visibility which I find to be considerably better. And an improvement in directional stability. So far the only downside is a decrease in mileage, as yet uncalculated, but probably in the vicinity of 10%.

In 2015 my son replaced his 2005 Prius with a Prius v for the increased space as he travels to dog shows & agility matches with his small dogs.
He also got Remote Start on his Trim 5 so he can leave the air conditioner running at some outdoor agility matches to keep hos dogs cool. Other people leave their hatches open with shade cloths and battery operated fans to try and keep their animals cool.

I have to ask, lol why so many cheesecakes? And I'd like some please!!

I test drove a regular Gen3 and I have to agree with the poor visibility on the rear window, although I'd imagine it would be an advantage for some where alot of people where I live love tailgating with their high beams no matter how fast you're driving, its never fast enough.

I had no idea that a remote starter could be installed in a Prius, especially with the push start. How much did it cost? The cold up here in Massachusetts has been brutal lately on my commutes to work in the evening. Would love to climb inside to a heated cabin before driving off, lol.

I have no idea. I know our favorite salesman also does fleet sales and it was ordered as a fleet of one. They found out factory remote start was cheaper than the port installed option.

I have no idea what is involved to install.

Ladies at church sold cheese cakes as an Easter fundraiser. One lady took her SUV and could only fit 24 in. I measured the box she picked hers up in, and said I could fit 96. So they sent me and my wife.

You realize if you left the wife at home you could have fit in more cheesecakes. ;)
The car might not be too comfortable to sleep in though, depending on the season.
