even with incentives, our 10+yr old system's cost - compared to a brand new system with incentives? The cost is less than ¼ of what we paid. Even so, our system has already paid for itself, years ago. So cheap now, we just added FOYR MORE panels (before & after pics)

There are even programs where the cost is rolled into a home in many areas now - so there is no upfront cost. Once a system is activated, & with a net zero (or nearly) electric bill, one can use that savings to pay down the extra expense/cost put onto a mortgage/home.
I doubt there are any refinery companies offering to help you get your own refinery put into your garage or backyard.

I envy your Southern California Sunshine. Our house in northern woods will take 13 years 2 months to pay back.

Toyota's thinking here had fossilized when NiMH was cutting edge for BEVs. and many still used lead acid.

One has to ask their self, how is it that over 4 million homes had PV solar ..... even over ½ half decade ago - where? Brittan! - that cloudy, snowy, gloomy, rainy, very short winter days .... most of the country being farther north than the continental USA .......

I think that it should be noted as to "why" we won't need as many commercial chargers as commercial gas pumps. Everyone (with a gas car) needs to use a commercial gas pump to refuel. However only a fraction of EV drivers need to use a commercial charging station, since they will mostly charge at home or work.
And the commercial chargers will predominantly need to be on heavily traveled Interstates and at popular destinations. Right now most gas stations are in cities and suburbs, I would guess.

Even someone who takes a 2000 mile summer driving vacation, will likely drive 10,000 miles the rest of the year charging at home/work. Many cars that are the second car in a family will never go on a long trip.

    Well actually...

There are plots of land in Alberta where the owners are paid a royalty from the province to put an oil well/pump on their land if there’s a large enough deposit. So technically, yes people are being paid to have an oil well lol.

    Fracking, & tar sand, are far from exclusive to Alberta;

So - others too - can enjoy the windfall benefits right on their very own property ... brought to you by your friendly multinational gas & oil companies. Now, if only I can get a refinery in my backyard as well. Call me old-fashioned, but I think I'll stick with solar & the electric cars.

I grew up in Oklahoma and remember Grandmother Wilson's well went bad from salt infusion from an ordinary oil well on her property.

The conversion to EV will not need any government subsidies, the marketplace will demand it.
How many people who traded in their horse for a car, decided they liked the horse better?
CAFE standards are a moot point, the conversion to EV is going to happen a lot quicker than I thought.
Here is a talk - play it at 2x speed when you have a little bit of time. It is too long to listen to at 1x, there are a lot of good points here.
I'm not saying he gets everything right or considers all factors, but there are a lot of factors he does consider, and those are worth while paying attention to.

What this video fellow doesn't understand is the corrupt nature of the oil industry, to the point where they are now bringing their Lobby to eviscerate EPA from regulating the cleanliness standards of oil well Drilling /Fracking /operating pads as well as refining. This is what allows the industry to run at an even lower cost. Then, there's the military aspect. You have to keep potential enemies out of the other oil areas in the world, in case they want to go to war with you. Still, it would be nice if we all lived in this fellow's simple / one facet panacea.
What that video fails to address, is that only around 10% of the population lived in tightly packed cities after the turn of the century. Of course cars could work better than a horse under such circumstances. Cost of ownership. Things didn't get more mechanized until World War II. How many decades later was that? Don't count the oilies out just yet.
