Real world cold weather traction battery utilization

    So this is my real world traction battery utilization in cold weather. I have 17,000 kms on the car and 11 months in age. Used 44% charge in 9.3kms.

    Bases on the following usage:
    - Parked outside at -1C
    - 100% full charge at departure (sat for 10 hours from full charge)
    - 1 session of Prep AC before departure
    - non-eco hvac mode, all vents mode
    - set at 29c full blast,
    - defrost+foot for first 3 kms, then front+foot mode
    - heat steering,
    - both heat seats
    - defroster mirror and rear windshield
    - headlights and fog
    - AM radio
    -1.5 bar of gasoline in the tank
    - Normal drive mode
    - "non eco" driving style
    - empty trunk and no tire jack and all inflation devices
    - All EV mode driving

    I’m in Chicago and it will be -32C during the day tomorrow.

    Correction. -23C s/b -32C
    Dyslexia?

    If you had "defroster everything", you are running ICE all the way, aren't you?

    I usually drive 100% HV in morning commute (19miles) to save my traction battery charge for my afternoon commute back home. The car uses very little battery charge on HV mode with AC auto set to 70°F, heated seat, and some windshield defrosting when it is a single digit or subzero F (below 14°F (-10°C)). In the afternoon, the temp is usually above 14°F, and I can drive all 19 miles to home on EV without firing ICE. That's with AC set to 70°F and heated seat. (I don't usually need defroster in the afternoon commute.)

    Sorry, defrost only mirrors and rear windshield. Didn't use the full front defroster. Got charging at work. So I'm lucky.

    Aha! That will definitely deplete the traction battery quickly in EV mode.

    That's a lotta stuff for +1°C lol.

    Meanwhile, today I got my best energy consumption at 12.9kWh/100km (7.75km/kWh or 4.85mi/kWh or 1.45Le/100km or 162.3mpge, pick your favourite metric) and that included a short highway stint. (about 10km). Granted it wasn't parked outside and cold soaked. It was in a parkade (~6°C inside).

    20.0°C (I find 20.5°C actually provides adequate heat from the heat pump)
    ECO Heat/Cool
    Automatic S-Flow (which at the time was in Driver Priority)
    No heated seats or steering wheel (didn't start that early in the morning).

    Tomorrow will be an early start so let's see what the consumption will be.

    It was cold soaked at -2 to -1C outside for around 10 hrs. Wife needs heat.

    The EV utilization for 17,000kms is around 89% based on dash record.

    That’s a very fair point. :)

    Sweet! Where do you find the EV ratio? Or do I just need to do some mental sums?

    The EV Ratio is the MID screen, Drive Summary I believe. There is a line that say EV Driving or something and is a percentage.

    If you go to that scree, press Trip, and go to the ODO (full odo) it would provide the total time and total EV Ratio. If you do not "reset" it that is, b/c in the 11" Screen there is a Previous Trip Information screen and if you press "Update" it would clear out all the ODO stats, as one other person mentioned. So NEVER EVER press any Update or Clear in the Previous Trip Information screen. I tested while 3 months in and it indeed cleared my ODO driving stats.

    If you also do not reset the TripA TripB settings, it will keep a running tally of the records. However, the TripA or TripB will go back to 1km over 9999kms. So that MID screen summary will also show your TripA and B EV ratio based on the premise how you use those Trip records.

    Yeah I accidentally pressed Update last week :(. Oh well at least it’s only 2 weeks’ worth and not 2 years.
