I mean I know we have it on our steering wheel, but does anyone one find it strange that the volume knob is not lit up like almost everything else?

Yeah that would've been nice. But my biggest pet peeve is the radio controls on the steering wheel Instead of up and down they should've been left and right The volume control should've been up and down at top and bottom positions.

HaHa - just think yourself lucky you've got a volume knob:mad::cry::(:cry::(:cry::(

The rest of the world doesn't. But we do get a readout of what volume it's at:

Hear ya, and since we get to complain, I can't believe the PARK button is not lit.

We've owned several Toyotas over the years since our first, a 2001 Sequoia (yes, it burns more gas than a Prius...). They all have one thing in common. While they are or were superb cars overall, every one of them have had one or two perplexing, irritating small flaws like this one.

I too noticed this on the first night drive. It's almost as if they designed that knob to be just the right black to disappear perfectly into the black void of the panel/screen behind it. . . On the other hand, if this turns out to be all their is to complain about, I'll be OK with it. ;)

If your power wind (and other) buttons are also not lit, try this:

I really do miss having a physical volume knob as we don't get one in our Prius or at least a mute button on the steering wheel .

    Hmm...
I own a 2016 Honda Fit...and Honda that model year did NOT include a physical volume knob. A lot of people complained. Honda returned the knob in subsequent model years.
There are steering wheel controls for the volume.

I would say my experience with the no knob volume control?
Well I kind of like it. I use the steering wheel volume to adjust almost exclusively. You can press the touch screen, and get a volume adjustment graph, that you can adjust by touch...but I rarely use it.

And IMO the absence of a knob actually makes the dash look cleaner and more modern.

I really don't mind NOT having a volume control knob.

I'm sorry, I just don't get what Toyota was thinking on this one. I certainly prefer having the knob as a secondary control to the one on the wheel, but with or without almost misses the point. What justifies building the cars with two nearly identical radios/panels, one with and one without. They go to great lengths to pare down the complexity of their matrix of options, and then, instead of just going with one standard configuration, they do this...

That's wild how many different variations of the head unit are out there. One thing I had planned was picking up a pair of silicon rings to slip around those glossy knobs to give it some texture and who knows, maybe option for the glow in the dark versions to kick it up a notch.

Yours is defective. It's on the wrong side of the shifter.

My Mum is now in aged care - but for 2 years she was my regular passenger, a little old lady. She'd try to adjust the volume as I drove - the 2 sections of glass marked VOLUME were way over the other side of the entertainment unit - just a piece of glass really. As I went over bumps, she'd inevitably hit the APPS or the POWER buttons - meaning I had to intervene. Fortunately she didn't try the steering wheel buttons while I drove.

I hate the stupid thing, if something (like a new PODCAST) suddenly loud comes on, winding down the volume is very slow too. A MUTE Button would be useful too.

I saw BC - and assumed it was part of USA - but Google confirms it isn't. America then.
