Still have P219A - Rough at Cruise Speeds - Cleaned IM Already

    Egr cleaning is not that hard. Pull cooler off and disconnect egr valve from pipework. Use oven cleaner foam and intake cleaner or egr cleaner and a toothbrush. Take 2 phillips screws off front off egr remove solenoid and spring. Then using toothbtush othrrwise and wd40 this side start playing. For the cooler use a jet wash pressure washer. Then clean away

    I guess you pulled the electrical plug??? Which disables the egr valve.
    Sounds like it is stuck open, until you pull the plug, which removes power, valve shuts. Then for some reason,
    you are getting power to the egr valve when you shouldn't.

    driving at 65mph would normally activate EGR (plenty of load). looks like EGR is not evenly distributed to cylinders?

    It may be a running hotter though. EGR keeps combustion chamber temps down. Don't bury your head in the sand on this one; do it right. You could be in a fools paradise for a year, then it grenades.

    Interesting. Everything I've ever seen talks about EGR making an engine run warmer and shortening the life of a motor. Especially when it comes to diesels (and I know this is a Prius but I've read this about Prius's too), guys get rid of it not for power or mpg, but the health of their motor!

    Apparently the introduction of exhaust gas reduces oxygen, and lowers combustion chamber temps. A lot. @mjoo has a better understanding, maybe some links. Yeah bottom line, I would try to restore the vehicle to as-new operating conditions, ie: just clean out the circuit and leave it operational.

    I will at some point. Not terribly worried about it right now (February in Ohio = not fun outside!). Parents have a nice garage but they're an hour away. Its finally warming up but we just had negative temperatures followed by a couple days of a HIGH of 4. Lol between a boat (that I hope is properly winterized!) and a new house that was remodeled by someone else, I've got bigger concerns at the moment haha. I'm not terribly worried about EGR being unplugged (which I don't think is great for any engine), especially when its now running better than ever. Like I said I'll get to it, it just may be a spring project. I highly doubt not having it is going to cause any severe problems based on my research.

    Hey Preston, I am no Prius expert, but have access to identifix through work for awhile so I figured I'd share with members any info I can find on there. Mostly a German Imports guy ;)


    For the code you mention:


    1. Disconnect the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve and see if the misfire goes away. If so, clean the passages as needed.

    2. If the EGR is not the problem, use a timing light to find the misfiring cylinder. Remove a coil, attach a spark plug wire to the spark plug and then to the ignition coil. Attach the timing light to the windshield and then drive the vehicle. When the problem cylinder starts to misfire, the timing light will cut off.

    3. Move the suspect ignition coil and see if the misfire follows the coil.


    I am not sure what year you have, but it appears there is an updated intake manifold
