    Well, this bites.
My file is too large to upload!
I wanted to show my Gen 2 does charge the battery while in park.
It cycles, will start, run for several seconds, then shuts down.
Once enough current is drawn, it starts, goes into charge mode, then shuts off.
This is performed over and over.
OAT is 45° F, in Mesa, AZ. 12:45 AM.

Yes, sounds quite normal. Are you saying you heard it wouldn't charge in P?

Is there a question in there somewhere or are you just starting the obvious?

I’m pretty sure no one will argue that Prius maintains the hv battery in park. In neutral is a different story.

I'm really curious about the genesis of this experiment. Did someone tell you the manual is wrong and the display is lying and that it really doesn't charge in park?

Are you trying to not charge the traction battery for some reason? That’s a bad idea, a really bad idea.

I, for one, applaud you for not trusting authority and proving it for yourself.

Now we only need trust you.... oh. wait...

I guess making mistake, based on so-called experts, is not 'allowed'.
I can take a joke, but the rudeness, is not apprdciated.
    Time to leave..

Welcome to PriusChat! If you can stick it out, you'll find it the very bestest place on Earth to find out and learn all you'll ever need to know about your amazing Prius. For the most part, folk here are only too willing to share their expertise and amazing knowledge, so don't worry too much about the other idiots who just like me tend to be opinionated, full of piss & wind , and more often than not don't know much about anything! ;)

The charging system is well-designed, so the car does so under most conditions. Neutral is the exception.

I don't think you'll find a more knowledgeable or helpful group anywhere. Yes, there are some rude people on this forum just as with every other online forum. But every post here was sincere and I saw no reason to be offended. Of the long-time members who commented on this thread, I have huge respect. Well, except @bisco. He's our comedy relief. LOL! JK, Bisco, but you are funny. :D

Lots of stuff gets posted here that isn't correct. I've done it myself. I appreciate it when those who know better give the facts. That's how we learn stuff. Don't run off because you thought someone was rude. And don't assume they are rude when you don't know them yet and can't see the twinkle in their eyes when they type.

And some of us are still wondering where you heard that the Prius doesn't charge in Park.

I'll add my welcome, and forgive me for not doing that in post #2, but your post got me so intrigued, I jumped straight in.
After read your post (quoted above), Earnest, I went back and reviewed the thread, and like Jerry above cannot see what was the cause of your offence.
This is what probably caused the most interest, and the reason for people stopping by to comment. Mostly it was to keep the thread alive so we could hear back from you.

If you read incorrect information, that is not a mistake, and to help you get on the right track, we will comment to that effect.

I hope you see this for what it is and not leave.

In what ever you decide, all the best.

    2010;).

But we didn’t pay that price for it:whistle:.

It needs to go before it starts to age too much:).

    That’s what I told the wife anyway:love:.

But it had a tissue paper wrapper on the outside that was dragging on the racks, which was the real reason it was chosen(y).

I guess I have to be the bad guy here. You came in with something exactly opposite of what the owners manual says. Then you feel people were rude to you?

To be honest, like Jerry and dolj, I didn't even see any rudeness in the thread; what I saw was curiosity around whether the OP had run across contrary information somewhere and how that happened, all of which I read straight. That's what people would be curious about.
