So, a few months ago, my gas cap started having issues. Not the normal issue where people cannot get their gas cap open. Quite the contrary, mine will not latch closed. Finally, today, I went through the hatchback area of the vehicle and got to the gas cap release area. The release cable was found and works, and the part it slides into (connecting to the car inside the fuel filling area) was there. The problem is, it almost seems as if there is a missing clip. The part will slide in, but will not stay in. Would anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Or at least what this area would be called so I could try to find if it is missing a clip, or where I would find these parts?

Alright, so upon doing further investigation, I was able to find out the parts I am looking at. Basically, I am not getting the fuel lid release cable to sit in the fuel door cable retainer. It goes in, does not appear to have any broken parts, but will not stay.

Maybe you can just bend it a little so it'll catch? It's fairly flexible metal there
