So, I saw the spy shots of the so called 2nd generation v out there about a year ago, but no new news since then. Anyone have any info on a 2nd generation v?

No sign, no rumor, that I know of. Toyota is not even bringing a Hybrid Corolla wagon to the US. Looks like we will get another brand.

The dealer called yesterday with a sales pitch. I said I only want a V so I'm keeping mine. He said there is a new version but they are calling it something different. They are notorious liars. I went to the Toyota website and it clearly says it is NOT making Vs. Period.

I believe they found the new Rav4 hybrid to be essentially equivalent to the Prius v in mpg and space along with awd standard at the same price point as the v. Toyota expects the 2019 Hybrid Rav4 to represent over 25% of the Rav4 sales which are high as it is. The older Rav4 hybrid had already slowed Prius v sales in the US because of the "truck/suv" mentality here. However in Canada, Europe and elsewhere the Prius v lives as the Prius Alpha. In Europe it is the Taxi of choice over their noisy and polluting diesels and gas vehicles. Toyota has also eliminated the Prius c in favor of a hybrid Corolla (52mgg combined) that is 2" longer than the c and uses the 1.8 engine.

What I find odd is the RAV4 hybrid sells in almost identical numbers to the V circa 2017, not sure what’s gained really

The new one should sell in greater numbers given the boost in mpg. AWD also sells.

I suspect we’ll see a different model. Like how the CT “evolved” into the UX for Lexus, we’ll see the v evolve into a different type of crossover.

Given Toyota expects to sell 25% of their RAV4s as Hybrids, the Rav4 Hybrids will probably outsell all of the Prius family combined in the US.

Thanks for the info everyone! I just bought a 2018 Prius, but when the Rav 4 Hybrid comes out, I'll probably sell the Prius and get it. I still have my V, 303K miles and counting, but I just put it up for sale

More power than the ICE Rav4 and MPG too. Both improved so salesperson can sell power in a SUV. Also more expensive. And reviews for the ICE version are not terrible but not very good either. The CRV reviews better though how its engine will hold up given reports of serious gas dilution of the oil in cold weather is yet to be determined. Somehow changing your oil every 3k miles doesn't appeal to me. Honda's response has been a TSB fix that doesn't fix and is only available in some areas, use premium gas, and drive longer distances. I almost bought one. There are multiple forum threads with hundreds of reports on crvownersclub.

Motor Trend just did a comparison of about 8 SUVs.

As an owner of a '05 Sienna, I assumed my next vehicle would have been a Prius v when the time comes. But at this point I think I have decided that the next vehicle must be a plug-in. My work commute is 24 miles round trip. Also being a drummer I do want to have a vehicle with ample space to load a set pretty easily. At this time I don't think Toyota offers a solution.

Coming from a Sienna, you need a Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan with 33 mile ev range and a $7500 tax credit. There are other large cargo options such as Tesla X and some of the Porsche models but if you spend that kind of money you probably don’t need to minimize your gas expenses.

What happened to the updated “v” I read about over a year ago on some car website with spy shots, talking about a raised platform and possibly 4wd? Did that car even make it to market in Asia? I can’t understand why so many auto manufacturers don’t bring wagons here anymore.

People don't buy in sufficient quantities to make it profitable. SUVs have replaced them for utility,

Count how many you see on the road compared to other shaped vehicles.

Love mine. But would like it more if entry/seats were were higher, a choice many are making.

Ideally the Pacifica would be a great replacment but I follow an owners Facebook group and there are too many horror stories for me to take that risk. Vehicles catching fire, uConnect issues galore, vans sitting in service department for weeks waiting on parts, etc. I would like to hear how Waymo is dealing with their fleet of Pacificas and what the reliability rate is. I am looking to reduce the size of the vehicle, so the Kona, Niro, or Soul PHEV seem to be the front runners, if they can be found in the U.S. when the buying time comes around. I am hoping to be a few years out before replacing the Sienna, so by that time, I might find a used PHEV or EV.

303k miles? Wow! Did you have to replace the hybrid battery? Has gas mileage changed at all?

I should have said the Honda 1.5 engine oil dilution by gas forum threads are over a thousand messages.

But buying a RAV4h you risk the same thing that happened to the CRV owners who bought before they could find out the real story by monitoring the forums and letting other people be the testers and report, as they surely will if there are issues.

I too am looking, just because I want some of the electronic safety features. I came within a heartbeat of buying a CRV. Fortunately I read the forums. My v is rock solid and doing exactly what I bought it to do. I can watch and wait.
