same. plus, it's poly the same old same old, prius sales declining.

i wouldn't say we're in denial. toyota has admitted as much. need to find ways to make it more compelling.
there are plenty of fish in the sea, but it's not going to happen tomorrow, they've already committed to gen 5.

I think the original poster may have gotten something wrong in the cut and paste. The link to the page with the content would be more helpful than the html code of the page.

I don't know. It may sound like denial but I think the Prius needs to evolve and it may become PHEV/BEV only.

The thing is, the Corolla Hybrid is a sedan and not a hatchback. I'll be curious to see final year sales because as I'm sitting here typing in February 2019, it could go either way - Sales could be modest because Corolla buyers are price sensitive but it could take off because those that wanted Prius mileage but didn't want a Prius can now buy a Corolla. A Corolla is also the most recognized nameplate.

I also love the fact we're going back to patterned cloth seats. The cloth seats in the Corolla Hybrid (dark/light grey two-tone with the centre pattern) look great.

The auris hybrid already took over the prius sales in 2013 in Europe, and in 2016 the auris face lift got more features and tech than the prius. The prius is no longer the "tech leading" vehicle from toyota. It makes no sense anymore, the corolla is faster than it, gets as good and maybe even better fuel economy, has more tech, is bigger (the TS Europe gets atleast). its time for the prius to lead toyota into another era, it led us into the hybrid era, it should lead toyota into the EV era.

I don't agree. Auris didn't have some safety features and gadgets Prius line-up had. Screen display, adaptative cruise, solar panel, etc.
Also currently the new Corolla does not match the interior room, and the fuel economy, of course, given it is not as aerodynamic. Corolla is pure hybrid and Prius gets a PHV option. The refreshed 4gen Prius also features AWD-i.

Well then u have had a different version than us in Norway, the auris here got safety sense 2.0 right before the prius, and our auris have had adaptive cruise controll since 2016 face lift. It should have had a HUD, but thats pretty much it that i care about from the prius, its stupid that the new corolla doesnt come with it either, i love it in my 2011. And In 2016 the auris here got the full version of the IPA while the prius got the "S-IPA" (simple-IPA) aswell, the auris here got more tech thats usefull than the prius. Which is why it sold so much more, and even if the regular prius dissapears, they still got the prius plug in/prime tha could take over the prius name. I just dont think its special enough to completely take over the full model name. Cause of how many plug in hybrids there r out there that competes with it, it has to get more special before it can take over such a revolutionary name as the prius.

And the interior is bigger in even the new small corolla than the current prius. The new small corolla with the wheelbase of 1640mm, is 30mm wider than the prius, got a 100mm more legroom in the rear, got 10mm more headroom in the rear, got 10 mm more legroom in the front and got the same front headroom. And cargo capacity in the TS is 100liters more than in the prius (501L in the prius according to norwegian tests from broom.no in 2016... Even tho i see in other tests it says it got 697L, so i dont really know what it has. 598L in the corolla TS and 502L in the small corolla). And cause of the prius`s weird shape with the rear window, u still cant fit that much in it, cause it has the rear window coming down on the cargo. Ive had that problem many times, that problem doesnt exist with our 2013 and 2016 Auris TS. I cant wait to check out the new corolla atelast when it comes to the showroom in march.

And with the prius`s cd of 0.24, the 2014 auris cd being 0.277 and the new corolla hatch being 0.32, it is more aerodynamic and gets better fuel economy for sure, but if it matters that much is the question... The current prius only got 0.01 better cd than the 3rd gen, it wasent really the cd that made it better on fuel economy was it? i have no freakin idea how much such a small difference in drag makes on cars... I think it was the new 1.8L 122hp hybrid engine that made the real difference from the gen3 and gen4, and with the new corolla getting the 1.8L 122hp aswell, i cant imagine it getting that much worse fuel economy... 1.8L is all about fuel economy, 2.0L is about those who wants a little more fun, but still good fuel economy.
And from what ive read the 2.0L 180hp is advertised as using 0.38L per 10km, the prius came advertised doing 0.32L per km. Its not bad considering it got 60 more hp... Of course it will use more realistically, but same does the 1.8L in the prius, it doesnt get the factory numbers. And who knows what toyota have done to the 1.8L in the corolla, they say theyve improved it even more than whats in the prius, most likely to have it match as much as possible even with having a higher cd.

And the AWD is cool, but does it really matter tho? its only in low speeds, i get that its a nice option. But i think it wouldve been better to have it in the new corolla than the prius, since it will guaranteed sell more than the prius here. And since the 180hp could have a better use of it since it got more power, but i guess that would make the corolla a competitor to the RAV4 hybrid, which would hurt toyota...

As I said in the post directly above yours: likely a (problematic) Jalopnik link, so you need to post it using the link button.

    1. Copy the address.
    2. Commence a response, type and highlight a bit of text, say "link".

The US is only getting the hybrid sedan, and those sales have been going to SUVs lately. Prius sales have been going down here in the while, but Corolla sales are also down here.

The main reason for the Auris' success over the Prius in Europe is that it doesn't get hit with the import tariff.

i do not know, corolla looks like a solution looking for a problem. it's ugly, slow, small, expensive, and no one is buying sedans. what am i missing?

I kinda like the dash. Apart from that honking great screen.

Wait a sec, no Hybrid System Indicator (HSI)? Not so sure.

Its elementary my dear Watson. Gas is cheap, hp is in, and the last generation of Prii were ugly. The solution is a flagship long range ev Prius that is a better value than a Tesla 3 or Chevy Bolt.

It may just be coming here because of the Insight3.

What would impress me more than a Prius BEV from Toyota, would be for them to drop the ICE option for models that have a hybrid one now.
