did the RR ver 2.5 fix anything or break anything that you noticed? I have ver 2.4 right now, just wondering if it is worth going to 2.5?

I have not noticed anything different, fixed or broken, from 2.4. It's hard to say, since they don't publish changelogs, but if you can easily update it you might as well.

    Liquidtenmillion,

I saw it in the 12volt forum that v2.6 is released and addressed the music information display issue, but they can’t reproduce the communication issue by any version of their firmware.

I’m still on 2.2 and recently I had very rare chance to see communication issue, it’s about once a week and even less, not sure if this is about CarPlay to cause it.

2.5 100% for sure fixed the communication issue. It was related to the way that they query vehicle settings on boot up.

Now what they do is every time you actually go into the vehicle settings you see "Scanning Settings" before it shows the settings. On older versions scanning settings occurred during boot up, which caused a race condition and potential crash.

Now that crash never happens and the controls always work 100%, I can personally verify this. However, it takes longer to get into the vehicle settings since it scans at that point, instead of in the background at start up, but going into those settings is rare anyway.

    Thanks Liquidtenmillion!

It’s really nice to see your theory and the verification, it makes sense that old version may crash by scanning setting during boot up.

Would love to see some pictures! Is this on a 2016 Prius? If not, would it work on a 2016?

My EU version works great as well save the car settings features (no maestro rr compatibility due to regional restrictions). What is cool is that the stock camera retains moving guidelines. IMG_5271.JPG IMG_5011.JPG IMG_5010.JPG IMG_5013.JPG

Hi guys first time poster here

Sorry to bump this old thread. But I'm planning to install the Alpine iLX-F309 on my Australian market Prius 2018 w/ JBL, as someone mentioned above I think I need to use the two idatalink harness adapters to keep my steering wheel controls.

However, one thing that concerns me is that when I unplug my factory unit, the MFD control buttons also refuse to work, including the trip and back buttons which are crucial for me.

Did you guys had such problems when the factory unit is disconnected, (I know JDM models doesn't come with a head unit, and the Australian model is quite close to the JDM model, but their harnesses are different) if so, did you solve it by just using the two idatalink adapters?

    Thanks in advance.

My head unit was previously non jbl and new headunit is idatalink compatible so it’s a bit different than your configuration but all controls were kept. I haven’t looked up how things would work if jbl since yours probably goes through an amp. I think most people here have the non jbl version. Idatalink probably had a solution for it but you’ll have to look it up on their website.

Sorry to bump this again, but this information is incorrect from what I know and saw. The JDM models have a few different harnesses than the overseas models, without a head unit, MFD control buttons work on the JDM models but not on the overseas models. MFD control buttons are wired to Entune / Toyota Link on the overseas models

Thanks, I've ordered a Maestro RR and the corresponding TO2 harnesses adapter, will see how things play out ;-)

Hi guys. I have questions regarding the SiriusXM antenna that comes with the SXV300V1 SiriusXM tuner. How are you guys mounting this antenna? I'm looking to install this with the Pioneer W4500, Maestro RR, and the required kits. I noticed some of you are referencing the factory antenna. My 2016 Prius II didn't come with satellite radio and has the oem stereo. Thanks in advance for your help!

Tough question now guys. I hope someone has walked in my shoes before.
I want to replace my nice japanese head unit as it does not support English.
The thing is that I am over-demanding, i.e. I don't want to lose any functionality. On the contrary, I would like to have all vehicle-supported functionalities. Not only steering wheel controls, back camera, but also monitoring and control functions (A/C, maintenance reminders, gauges if there, energy monitoring, fuel efficiency,...).
I unfortunately learnt that iDatalink is supported only in North America so...not in Europe where I am. :-(
Hence, my only option is to purchase a head-unit from the US (that is tuning correctly in FM too). However, I haven't tracked any online shop that delivers in Europe :-(.
    Two questions:
    1. Anyone knows any online shop that ships to Europe?
    2. Anyone has retained ALL above functionalities with iDatalink (Maestro and related harnesses)?
    Thanks in advance!

I’m not sure about shipping things to Europe, but I do know that you can retain steering wheel controls without the maestro rr. You might want to research this.
    ASWC-1 | Axxess Integrate

That site has a way to retain your backup camera as well. I haven’t tried but it should be an option. Your controls and monitor on your dash are separate from your head unit gauges so you’ll lose the head unit stuff but your new unit may come with a connection you may retrieve information from your obd2. Possibly more. All your dash stuff that reports efficiency and other stuff is retained. A new head unit does not affect your a/c controls.

I have a maestro rr setup and what I indicated above is what I experienced. The axxess stuff can be an alternative that may do the same.

So after reading through all the different models and posts, is there a consensus on a couple of models that retain most if not all of the functions on a base 2016 Two Prius? Mainly looking for Android Auto and im willing to spend a little more to have all of the harnesses etc setup correctly

You can potentially retain 95% of your features. The 5% includes the vehicle metrics shown on the stock head unit. All your dash controls, steering wheel controls, a/c controls, rear view camera can be retained. Go to crutchfield and filter for android auto head units for your vehicle and you should find a large amount. A maestro rr will provide large amount of features including a connector to access obd2 port for loads more features. Getting a headunit that includes an equalizer will be a major upgrade in sound.

Im taking a chance on the Sony XAV-AX5000 setup with all of the maestro RR adapters etc. After watching a bunch of videos on all of the units in the 300-400 range the Sony looks to have the most powerful processor. I cannot stand how laggy most screens are in cars nowadays. If they can slap a mobile chip into a phone that is buttery 60fps+ smooth then a 30K car should easily have it as well. Im a SysAdmin and always get the latest Tech. Im planning on driving this Prius until it dies so hopefully 240K + and want Android Auto so im treating myself to this one.

WAY better headunit. Now im satisfied with my Android Auto headunit and have no regrets driving this car until it dies many years later. Also swapped every speaker with Kicker CS'. Nice job. Did you install an amplifier?
