It was there, it was red, I was close enough to "ready."

We have some trips coming up this summer and wanted something more comfortable. Todd over at Tampa Hybrids had a 2016 Prius III Touring and a 2017 Prime Premium. Both with similar miles, the Prime being a little more expensive, of course.

I finally decided (but just barely) on the 2016 just for the price difference and the spare tire. So, just for the fun of it, we went to the credit union this morning to see about a loan to cover the difference between the price and our trade value. I called Todd to tell him I'd decided to buy the 2016. He said he was sorry, but someone was buying that car right then. So, it was either wait, or spend $3k more for the one year newer Prime.

About 20 minutes later, the credit union sent me an email to digitally sign the loan agreement. They approved it in a heartbeat! So we went over and did the deed.

Interesting side note. Todd handed me the EVSE cable and it was still in the original bubble wrap. He doesn't think the original owner ever plugged it in!!! I'll change that! I've already programmed the charging schedule. :D

    I. LOVE. THIS. CAR!!

It was 23.4 miles home. Todd sent me away with a full charge. I still had 9.2 miles of EV left after driving mostly at 50 mph.

That 5.4 miles/kwh is WAY more than I ever got with the PiP. The 4.8 that's there for March 6 was the day of my test drive and almost half of that was over 70 mph.

So, now I have to edit my profile here and then so some serious studying on this amazing machine.

Now your wife has to keep her car until the wheels fall off. ;)

    Congrats.

Man! I just want to go take it for a spin now!

I just plugged it in for a test "charge now" charge. It draws about 50% more power from the wall than the PiP, so I can get more miles faster for those after-work meetings at church. With a full charge I should be able to get all the way there and most of the way back. (about 35.5 miles round trip).

Congratulations. Just curious, what were odometer reading and the price tag on the 1 year old Prime Premium.

Wow, that is a great price for less than 2 years old car! But at the same time, it's sad to know that the car depreciated that much. It means the wholesale price was probably around $10K? My Prime Premium is about 24K miles now, which means if I take it to trade it tomorrow, I am only going to get half of what I paid for the car in less than two years.

edit: Wait! I just looked at the link you posted. It shows the price of $24,995, not $14,995. Is yours typo?

I think the tax credits make a major impact on resale values.

Congrats! It's a huge step up from the PiP (I did less similar jump from a Gen 3 to a Prime).

So, was it $14,995 or $24,995?

$25k makes more sense but that also means the previous owner drove it for less than $5k plus tax over 2 years. ($29k for the Premium, less the tax credit, then probably got $20k for trade in)

Yeah, $20K for trade-in would be great. If that is the price I can get on mine, I would actually make money for I got mine for less than $20K. I have seen some comments by people trading in 2017 to buy a new 2018 and making money on the transaction.

If the original owner owned an L2 ESVE, they may never have opened the L1 cable.

Congrats on the red prime. Beautiful car!

BTW, I’ve never used my EVSE that came with the car.

I am so happy for you!! Show off your car! Most people don't even know what the Prime is. You will love it! I have friends who have purchased one and they are so suprised at how little gas money they need to spend any more.

Congratulations on your beautiful new ride!!! (Identical red/moonstone color scheme as ours :))

One of our newfound joys is discovering free charging stations scattered about our townships (did I mention, I'm a thrifty Scotsman?).
