Any idea how much these front and rear gaskets cost, I couldn’t find them on eBay. I have no idea why they look like,

The light blue Prius I saw was in the Sutton area.

Love the BAC One-Eleven nostalgia in your post. I can remember flying one of those to Cyprus back in the 70s. Noisy beast of an aircraft.

I found out today from somebody at work that his mother's Prius (an 05 plate) was mugged of its CAT on Sunday.
The location: Ruislip Lido Car Park.

    :(:(

I have heard on my travels back thar n' over yonder that Honda cars are of interest to the CAT muggers. The Accord, and Jazz are of particular interest. Not that I have seen as many reports as the Prius of course.

Had my Prius picked up today to be taken for repair, annoyingly the garage will only repair with a genuine Toyota cat, much to my annoyance. They have offered to weld up the bolts that connect the exhaust to the manifold, as I didn’t realise the thiefs unbolt the manifold to top exhaust first, then make one cut after that, and along with the o2 sensor. Toyota have offered to fit a catloc for £200 all in, and I’m considering attaching some perforated steel strips along the bottom of the car, just to stop access to the exhaust so it cannot be cut off again. Have been told 3 week wait before I get the car back, annoyingly courtesy car is only valid for 2 weeks. I do have another car, but that is a Subaru Impreza, not very daily driver friendly! No word from the police. Will keep you all informed on here how it goes.

A full Toyota dealership repair with the original OEM parts including labour would realistically be over £2,000 in costs here in the UK.

I bought mine directly from Jemca Toyota in Edgware. Originals. They cost about £44 together, if I remember correctly.

Apparently it was the main car park. As you say that's a pretty busy location with people coming and going to the Lido and the restaurant.

I wonder if that was an after market replacement CAT or an original OEM replacement.

These thieves villains don’t have any fear they steal from peoples driveways while the occupants are in the house but this problem was mainly east London sides it’s slowly gone to Colindale and now Ruislip too

An alternative to the cat lock saw it listed on eBay £265 vs inconvenience of getting it stolen again. Probably can get a mesh like that cut it and bolt it down issue is that working under a raised car is risky and not many people would chance it.

Perhaps you could ask your usual local mechanic to do this get a mesh with holes and get it bolted

God, im extremely worried now my Cat will get stolen again, its just an aftermarket one now but can you trust the thieves to really bother to check.

Maybe if it gets stolen again ill take the car to toyota so they quote a huge repair cost and I can get the car written off.

Autotrader states car value 3700 part exchange

Are these being covered by insurance?

Yes they are. I was certain they'd write my GEN 1 off, but when I received the call it said 'your car is all repaired and ready' I thought they'd say 'your car is on its way to the great scrap yard in the sky' but no.

Apparently - according to the Met Police lady I spoke to on the telephone this is a 'victimless crime' as insurance companies repair them.

She obviously had not taken her medication that day!!:rolleyes:

Victimless yes indeed they are not the ones suffering increasing insurance premiums or worrying after work or shopping is the exhaust still there or not! It always on your mind.

I guess this poor dude got his stolen twice will be worried everytime he goes to work will his Prius be quiet as a mouse or roaring like a tractor when he starts it.

I have written to the local mp whose said he shall be bringing it up with the local police regarding catalytic convertor thefts. Problem is they consider this as petty and victimless but those who have had their catalytic converters will not agree.

I spoke to a van dealer who said Honda jazz is the next target so anyone with friends or relatives with Honda jazz lock them cats up

Truly astonishing these thieves can go around London stealing and vandalizing cars with complete impunity from police.

Why dont we just all go around and help ourselves to bits from other peoples cars?
