I have a 05 Prius, just bought it about a month ago. Bought it changed the plugs and oil. Checked it over been in automotive all my life. Must say this is my first prius. Love it, and drove it 2000 miles with no problem. Have a cylinder 2 misfire, changed the plugs, ngk iridium. Runs at idle no check engine light. Minute you put it into mechanic mode skipping and get a p0302. Drive it in normal mode, skips, and bangs. Cleaned the maf, replaced plugs again, ran a bottle of iso heat to remove water, swapped around the coils and stays at cylinder 2. Checked the boots and cleaned them. Ordered a injector and will test that part of the system before replacement. No gas in the oil and oil is not burnt. Antifreeze has no foreign matter. When I bought the car I replaced the hv battery. Any other ideas or thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you are in the right track.

You've isolated the issue to cyl 2.
Even after changing the plugs and swapping coil pack.
    Next up is the injector.

That's what I'm thinking. If not the injector any other thoughts. Praying its not internal.

Changed the injector and misfire gone. Now loud ticking coming from the lifters. Any thoughts on this?

If changing the fuel injector does not help, check for poor compression on cylinder 2, which can be confirmed via compression test or leakdown test.

Go on Toyota.com/owners and join the forum using your cars vin. It will show you every time the car has seen an authorized Toyota repair center. You may find out why the car was sold or traded in.

Stubborn misfires sometimes indicate motor damage from running the engine out of oil which is real common on this site. The car is so reliable no one checks there oil anymore especially if the car has had its oil changed
At the dealer all it’s life. If dealer serviced most people think I never have to open the hood again never aware there Prius is an oil eating monster and will run itself dry between oil change oci’s.

Changed the injector and fixed the misfire, not rapid tapping noise from the top end. Sounds like lifters hitting. FYI oil change is been done I check the oil every other day to a week tops. Just did another oil change today with Lucas and no improvement. I think I damaged the motor when it was misfiring. Any thoughts

Check the valve clearances. The engine is overhead cam so no lifters.
