Still looking for matching used part.

Does anyone know where I can find help getting the techstream that offers the “utility” button feature to help program used fob keys? I’m having trouble understanding why my version doesn’t have it

It is not the version of Techstream, it will be the MVCI cable in where the problem lies. There are a myriad of cables sold using that name and they are not all equal.

You can either buy 3 or 4 more cables hoping you will stumble across on that will talk to the immobiliser/key ECUs and be able to access all features or you could buy a VxDiag $70 -$99 (China) cable or Tactrix Openport 2.0 ~$170 (USA) which will both be faster (as in bits per sec throughput) and more reliable, or go the whole hog and buy a Drew Technologies Mongoose ($600-$700) (also watch out for cheap Mangoose which are clones) if you want the real McCoy.

    Hope that helps.

Is this the vxdiag product you are referring to?

I don't see any link there, but the best place to buy it is direct from the VxDiag Shop here. It is currently on sale with 13% off – $69

I don't know if I'm equally sure I just know what the problem is ... my Mini VCI seemed to talk to the smart key stuff just fine (it was balky with the engine ECU and the brakes). What version of Techstream have you got? I'm not very knowledgeable about differences between versions.

I’ve been able to do a lot with this version and mvci so far. After buying a used smart key and a new seed passcode, I find myself stuck trying to find the “utility” button as stated before. I did buy the software and very cheap 35$ mvci so... yeah... lol.

I think it’s safe to assume I need to upgrade the cable. Both pins that showed for programming and I think SIL showed failed results in the cable inspection feature. 35$ for me this far fixing a lot I’m upgrading will be worth it.

I thought my cable showed fewer green lines, but I just checked and my result is the same as yours.

As far as finding the "Utility" button, this is where I find it:

    Double click the "Immobiliser" box:
    Select Immobiliser.PNG

This should bring up the Immobiliser Live Data tab showing the Utility Selection Menu:

Does this work for you? Or do you see something different?

I finally got it to work with an older version. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions as eventually with more research I found out I had to go back with an older version. I love this forum lol

I'm trying to program used key off ebay and find myself stuck trying to get the passcode I bought figured out using their video. My current issue is how to get the 96 character seed number or where to get it from. Am I getting that seed number from the techstream-to car?

Can I obtain the 96 character seed number for the passcode trick from immobiliser screen? I’m being told it’s just through “smart key”. Now I am stuck in finishing the passcode portion of the used eBay sks I just bought.

I have never had to do that, so cannot say from experience. However, in general terms the passcode is created by Toyota in a closed loop for security purposes. I'm not sure whether the ones available on the internet are derived from Toyota and on sold or otherwise.

It wouldn't make sense, from a security perspective, if you could just go into the immobiliser/key ECU and read the passcodes.

I'm fairly sure someone attached the key reseed procedure from the repair manual in a thread in one of the Gen 2 forums, so search the Gen 2 forums for that. It may be in the Chicken Dance thread, so start at the end of that thread and work backwards through it.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

The issue right now is I can’t access a “smart key” button from the main menu once my 2007 Prius is connected. Perhaps there is another way to accessing a 96 character seed number to be able to finalize the pass code process.

It is probably a bit moot now, but thought I'd actually refresh my memory and confirmed my initial observation, hence the delay in replying.

I am going by my own experimentation on a group of 1 (Gen 2) Prius, but I have never seen that great a difference. I just went and checked it now, and ran through a start up cycle and in general it was 0.07 V - 0.18 V difference (MFD – lower vs Battery – Higher) except when the brake acc pump kicked in then it went to about 0.3 V diff. Then when the relays kicked in and HV came online it went back to 0.07 V. I never saw the sign change when the car went READY, either. YMMV.

Changed out the actuator and I must admit i had the most fun doing ever. Meh...

My next question now is before I bleed the brakes with the techstream software is there anything else I should keep in mind before doing this? Do I need to open a caliper or leave something loose before beginning the bleeding of the brakes process with techstream.

This will be my first time reading this thread so thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction. I have three other Prius same model and was wondering if there was anything really that could contribute to having a faulty brake accumulator go bad? Obviously brake fluid flush and change helps but do these have any mileage average on them? Im hearing sometimes 180k if original part from original assembly
