Both my Prii are in need of new batteries. The V throws several p0a80 codes a day some times and the standard once a day now. I reset the CEL when it happens, if you wanted to know how it gives so many codes a day. They both have around 250,000 miles. And I've been dealing with the V doing this for about a year. Before now it would only code once in a while and it progressively got worse until now.
Who has the best deal on batteries either full or build yourself? I was thinking maybe buy one and the use the best cells from the 3 to fix the V with.
I need the batteries shipped to Oregon. I did find one place in LA that would rebuild the battery for $800 but only if I drove down there. I don't want to do that.

I see that ChrisFix (youtube) used Electron Automotive posted above. I came across Green Bean Battery | Reconditioned Hybrid Battery Company. Not a bad price, a couple hundred extra compared to the others and they come to you to install. I'd sure be interested in hearing if anyone has used them.

Lots of people have used them. Most wish they hadn't. Rebuilt batteries just put old cells that haven't failed YET from other batteries in with the old cells that haven't failed YET in your battery. It's called "whack-a-mole." I call it buying trouble. Get a new or nearly new non-rebuilt battery and save yourself a lot of trouble. Do some searching on this forum and you'll get a ton of sob stories. Ot the kit of @2k1Toaster as @bisco mentioned. Then just drive it/them.

Prolong makes a hybrid battery system that is supposed to charge/recharge it and bring it back to life.
I guess it would depend on how bad it is. It's about $650 complete. But you'd need another harness
for your other car. It could possibly lengthen the life of your batteries.
If you are interested in that.

The Prolong system is designed to extend the life of an older battery before it fails. They do sell used modules based on mileage if they are needed though. @2k1Toaster kit, linked in my signature basically gives you a new battery for $1600 delivered. You can sell your old modules to lower the cost further.

Like @jerrymildred said, many people here have regretted buying the old repaired batteries. It takes time, testing, and effort to do a decent job and the companies do not do that work. There are a couple of people here that do this as a hobby. Some people can find a low mileage battery from a junked Gen 3 Prius.

I don't know what year Prius you need a battery for so for an example I used a 2011 Prius.

I found a new OEM unit for $2011.40 from a Toyota dealer.
2011-2017 Toyota Battery Assembly G9510-76012 | Lowe Toyota Parts Center

Go online and find the part number for the battery you need then search that part number.
The costs will varies a lot so take your time. I've seen prices from the above $2000 to $5000, just spend a couple minutes checking out what dealers are willing to let it go for. There is a $1350 core charge so figure that in with shipping.

When I replaced mine my dealer came within less than $100 from what I could get it online with shipping. I just went with my dealer so I didn't have to deal with hassle of buying online, shipping, core charge and shipping the old unit back.

    1. Some dealers will not sell without installation.
    2. Most dealers will not ship the heavy battery
    3. How is this better than the $1600 delivered kit of new cells? In all cases you need to install & you get an electrically new battery pack.

There is no "super secret special sauce" in what we do. But there is a large investment upfront and very little reason. As a pure business person, it's a bad investment. The ROI is much lower than buying a cheap kit and reselling it. You don't get the volume, you have high competition that's similar in appearance but not in design, and you have a huge investment that you burned cash to get it off the ground. Versus just buying off the shelf. But I do a lot of my businesses because I want the product to be the best possible and there was a gap. Being slightly profitable is a huge bonus. Being revenue neutral is fine too.

As far as I know, we're the only ones doing what we do.

Best I understand it, the battery is not dead. Because they still drive it. They are getting errors.
I could have misread what prolongs page says, but it does say it has brought back "dead" batteries. There system
is capable of doing it. I'm certain it won't rejuvenate every single one, but has recovered some.
Depending on how much money you have, I think it would be worth the investment to give it a try.
And if it doesn't, then you can use it for your NEW battery! Or sell it and recoup most of your money.

i saw your site in my searches. What percentage of people using your batteries have used them for over 250000 without problem? I have put average of 500000 miles on multiple cars and 700000 on one with no battery issues. its just these 2 out of 20 that have ever given me issue and they are both 2015s. I dont really want to be a test to see if they will last 500000 miles.

While I'd love to put tracking devices on the modules, I don't. So of those reported, my guess would be zero. Just hasn't had the time yet. I do have fleet vehicles using our packs throughout the world and I know packs have passed 120k miles and 150k miles. But that's just from some customers that like updating me. And I like that too. But I am not going to phone everyone up and ask them how the pack is doing and to get me an odometer reading every 6 months.

We expect them to last similarly to the original PrimeEarth (Toyota/Panasonic) packs. The difference is we don't have the historical data, because we're not historical (yet). 500k miles on any pack is unlikely without good balancing. But possible. Taxis are strange creatures and it's made to work in that environment.

Isn't the mileage pretty arbitrary anyway? If i use the ICE 75% of 200k miles due to highway driving, the battery shouldn't just konk out because i hit 250k. But if I did 200k miles of nothing but EV mode, that battery is stressed a lot more and should conceivably need to be replaced. Do environmental conditions also play a role? Sitting in the hot southern sun, or wide temperature fluctuations in the north can impact battery life, can't it?

Agree Prii that are seeing high miles per year seem to be doing better than a car like mine that averages 8,500 miles per which is mostly short trips. In my case the clock ran out (Time) not the miles on the vehicle.
